    "Reply to post" Spammers

I just started getting "Reply to post" spam. I always got these notifications when someone replied to a post that I had made. That is because I had selected "Instant Email Notification". But now I get Spam pretending to be a reply to the post, even when there has been no reply. What's happening?

    Loblaws/PC locos?

I used the Precsision Scale cab. When I painted it, the plastic crazed so I had to sand off all the deatails to remove the crazing. This actually worked to my advantage because the protoytpe cab was welded and had no rivets.

    Loblaws/PC locos?

I just finished my kitbash of last years President's Choice IHC 4-6-4 "Mini Chef's" CNR Hudson. I decided to backdate it to a time before it had the semi-streamlining skirts installed. It is a pretty basic conversion. I just added an all-weather cab and used the Bachmann "Hicken" Vanderbilt...

Question about an old-style Rivarossi Big Boy

"Spawn Of Chaos"............. Is your Big Boy like the one in the diagram below? Does it have the original squared off motor? Or a rounded off motor that came out later? The lastest versions have the motor enclosed in the boiler and is not visible in the cab. In any case, ALL big boys have ALL...

    I love this picture

I think it is quite possible that it is only a single photo. According to the "imbedded" digital information, it was an 8 second exposure. If the camera was securely monted to the loco, or on a good tripod, the loco would be in sharp focus and the streaks would be caused by the movement of the...

    Post Your STEAMERS!!!

I finally finished my IHC 2-10-2. (President's Choice, Loblaws, Superstore, etc) I don’t really have an inventory of parts, but I will describe what I used. More of my 2-10-2 photos can be seen here at my Photobucket album. http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/msowsun/Trains/2-10-2/...

    Bachman 2-6-0 Mogul

There is a company in Brazil that makes a couple of nice little engines that would look great on a logging layout.. They have the drive systen in the tender but I have heard that they run quite well. Model Power imported these for awhile. You may be able to find one at a good price...

    Bachman 2-6-0 Mogul

The Bachmann 2-6-0 is really an 0-6-0 switcher with a tiny pilot truck added to it and a different tender. Older Bachmann engines didn't run very well and I doubt this new Bachmann "Standard" does any better. I would go with an IHC 2-6-0 Mogul. It will run better and have more detail.

    Train too fast

If you only install the diodes for one direction, you could use half as many. Then when you operate in reverse, the scrub pad motor would automatically be turned off. (diodes only allow current to pass in one direction)

    Train too fast

You would need fairly large resistors I think. Another way is to build a transistorized voltage regulator circuit. A low tech way to reduce voltage is to use diodes. Each diode in a series will drop the voltage by .7 volts without increasing the current or making any heat. You will need...

    Flea market fix'r upper...

Here's one of my "fixer uppers"... I now have 10 of these Mehano ore cars and I have modified 5 of them. I just changed the couplers and trucks and then painted and lettered them for CPR. Here is a Tyco tank car that I did many years ago.

    IHC/ President's choice Hudon mods

I think the prototype also had "blind" or flangeless center drivers. But on the model, not only is the center driver blind, it is also undersize and does not touch the rails

    IHC/ President's choice Hudon mods

I just picked up mine today. It comes with a dummy front coupler and NMRA rear coupler which I have changed already. It runs really well, but my first impression is that it doesn't seem to pull as well I expected for a 2-10-2. Here are some photos of a brass CNR 4100 to compare. (thanks to cn...
