    Trouble at Cabin Branch

I agree with Jon, that the addition of paint is the problem. Have you tried just the paint with the hydrocal? May need to add a little water, but not the full cup. Try a small batch first, like cutting the proportions in half or even a fourth. See how it comes out, then add water if too hard or...

    Dremel

Would that be something like the thing-a-mijig do-whacky? I believe that was originally designed to help when doing small stuff like you suggested. Could it be kind of like a flex-shaft attachment? But then, in the words of Eeyore..."So I was wrong, big surprise!"

    Dremel

I've always owned a Dremel, but have always wanted one that runs less than 5,000 - 35,000 rpm. Something around 500 - 3,000 rpm would be nice at times. Of course I have a cordless variable speed drill, but it's too heavy to hand-hold with small objects frequently/long periods. But then, I could...

    One year, 1000 miles

Alas... In words of a wiser sage than e'er this humble Knight hath known in all his travail... Oh Bother! Winnie The Pooh Alas...to so curs'ed be, thus born in a time where beauty and all the glory of creation hath no place in all this commonality. O, to be a frog...perchance by a miracle...

    One year, 1000 miles

Re: frogs Perchance yon moonbeam hath smote thy mind? 'Tis naught any trait of mine which surpass thy knowledge nor wisdom on this matter. Only experience most hard won. And yet, with what generosity come thy words to me! I bow, and with a simple flourish cause my hat to salute thy Gentle...

    One year, 1000 miles

Ahhhh...at last a topic of which this humble Knight doth know a thing or two. Where must one kiss a frog? In my day a Lady wouldst know in her heart where she might kiss a frog. And yet, I must ask, hath the frog warts or no? 'Tis of much import in such cases as these!

Louis Ullian's Coon Creek Lumber Co.

Tyson, Thank you for posting all of the beautiful pictures of Coon Creek. :thumb: I love the romance of 1880s logging and respect the work of the men and women who toiled in the logging camps, so that I could vicariously relive their romantic lives in my modeling efforts. Best Wishes, James

    Shay rounds the bend.

If it wasn't for the quality of artistry at work in everything Shamus does, it would look like something I do! :thumb: But then, I enjoy my attempts at emulating the best, and that is the point...doing one's own best to enjoy the hobby. Bravo, Shamus!

A New Level Of Model Railroading?

The "real world", and the behavior of "adults"? I really enjoy The Guage. And I'm truly impressed by the level of modeling that is done by the members. Not everyone's version of reality is the same. Human nature being what it is, despite all the progress in society and technology, it...

    Some tall timbers

Shamus, Excellent "live" picture of your layout. The closeups are incredible enough. But seeing this shot of your layout in "scale" with you graphically depicts how incredible your modeling truly is. Congratulations in attaining the pinnacle of modeling. You set the bar high, but you also...

    Spoked wheels?

Michael, That is some excellent modeling you're working on! I really like the enginehouse. A lot of great work there. Your "new" hobby is a fun one. I had a Kawasaki in my first youth. Enjoy! But please drive carefully! Take care, James

    On30 0-4-2 Porter

Thank you gentlemen. Looks like contacting Bachmann is the next step. A load run-in doesn't improve performance. I like the look of the Porter, but not the speed jump. Godeftermiddag

    On30 0-4-2 Porter

Tyson, thanks, I will consider that. Shamus, I do tend to expect way too much of most things. The Shay is great, in that the speed increases smoothly. The Porter seems to jump from a slow speed to near full gallop with little change in the throttle setting. I have an MRC 250. I bought the...

    Skeleton log cars

Lassenlogger, I appreciate the old advertisements of log cars. You exemplify the true spirit and reason of an on-line Forum. Thanks for sharing your resources so that we can all be inspired. I wish I had all the railroad books I donated to the local library when I moved about 20 years ago...
