    How to totally fake it....

Reading an aquaintance's blog yielded the following technique for faking "tilt-shift" photography in Photoshop. In a nutshell, making an oblique aerial photo look like it is a model. Some of the examples I've seen are amazing.... http://recedinghairline.co.uk/tutorials/fakemodel/

Train trips rise in Europe - Good news for Amtrak/Via?

When.... Business travel will never die, because.... People print out email. People do not accept phones/email/video as deals. Leaner and meaner means less people have to do more work because the rest are making business trips. Leaner and meaner means the people laid off will need to find...

    UP sues MTH

The real issue is..... I was following a similar thread in another forum. This had to do with UP going after the calendar maker for the "Union Pacific Calendar 2006." Standard copyright issues applied there and there really isn't anything else to say. It all come down to usage. If you are...

    UP sues MTH

The end of the world I was just reading a thread on Atlas's forum about this whole thing. Everybody seems to think the world is going to end. If people truly are concerned about the issue, just don't buy any factory UP models. When they see the representation of the market going to rivals...

Another poll to ponder and raise some eyebrows

Richard Dawson hosted Art Contest I agree with most of the posts, tagging is basically peeing on the sofa. I agree that most of it, is a blight. I also have seen some, that is jaw-dropping. Hey even Sony hired people to tag buildings with PSP propaganda. It would be interesting to have a...

Is the Real Thing getting, well, blah?

Railroads and the modern man I followed this thread with great interest. Growing up, I was oblivious to railroads, save the occasional Amtrak trip on the Eastern Seaboard. Decades later, I was finally able to understand my father's love of the 50's era ATSF diesels and occasional steamer. The...

    Digital Photo Backdrops

Backdrop Photos A couple years ago, I was designing a book cover for work and came across this site. It has great source material for backdrops, assuming you have the skills and software to work with them. GOOD STUFF!! http://www.morguefile.com/

    Nice Cold PEPSI, Anyone?

The enclosures (side topic) Those are the funniest! You'd have to label them somehow, or just tell everybody that they are where you buy porn. Otherwise people might think that they are just a propane enclosure cage.

    Nice Cold PEPSI, Anyone?

Don't forget these! Those 24-hour valet bits are great! Please do not forget the Japanese renditions, with Pocari Sweat, whisky, beer and the like! The perfect diorama for this would have a passed-out, broke sailor slumped next to it. More here..... http://www.photomann.com/japan/machines/...

    Shinkansen

Locations and models There are several places to get them. Newhall Station seems to be one of the better ones. http://www.newhallstation.com/store/ I should also recommend Tomix trains. They have exquisite detail. I have their series 800 Kyushu Shinkansen. Prices are comparable to Kato.

    Modern rail station

Size matters I decided quite a while ago that I would just model an apron of the airport. Forget the terminals. I'll do an apron with either military aircraft or civilian models you would see parked on aprons (versus parked at a terminal). The rest of the airport will be photoshopped in (that...

Need some help with locomotive power plant compartment

bending plastic I remember from way back when I was a kid building Tamiya military models that by dipping the parts in hot water you could bend them. I subsequently wrecked a Merkava tank body by putting it in contact with boiling water. This same technique could be CAREFULLY applied. If you...

    Cardstock Vehicles

Links... At several times in the past couple of years I have located, forgot and re-located card and paper models. Some are QUITE good. Buses seem to be the most popular. But I have found quite a few trains as well. See my LRV post in this forum. http://peterfray2582.fotopic.net/...

    Modern rail station

Other ideas in the works Here are the road logos I came up with. These will be dependent upon whether I can find the replacement body shells for the Shinkansen train that I have and those that I will buy in the future. Tomix does such a museum-quality job on their decaling and paint that it...

    Modern rail station

Thanks for the link I kind of liked the concept of the station. It reminds me of a deco-style building circa-80's Miami. I could see Crockett and Tubbs strolling out and getting into the Daytona. I liked the edge coloring on the walls. One of the things I would like to do is to put either an...
