What are the look alikes of the Bachmann GP50(high hood)?

I am just curious: what can you consider the front and rear of a high hood GP50? I've read that the earlier GPs were designed to go in any direction.

    Felt grass?

The "felt" I'm referring to is like ground foam in the sense that you can sprinkle them on paint or glue. The material is similar to the "felt" on felt paper, but in this case it is not glued on paper (it is sold in small plastic bags like ground foam). By grass in "full glory," I was...

    Felt grass?

Thanks everyone. :) I think I've been misunderstood when I mentioned "felt grass." It is a local architecture shop product that resembles ground foam. It is a little finer than colored sand. And if I am correct, it's like the "felt" they glue on felt paper. So I can blend this felt grass...

What are the look alikes of the Bachmann GP50(high hood)?

Thanks again. :) I did some internet research, and found out that a particular GP7 HO model measured 7.5 inches. I measured my GP50, and it had the same length. I think I can fool people who don't know trains into thinking it is a GP7. ;)

North American RR's coming back big time

This is interesting news indeed. :) I hope more Americans will opt for Amtrak. Passenger trains are a romantic idea for me. I could not imagine myself to model an American railroad without passenger service!

    Felt grass?

I'm considering felt grass for scenery. The colors I have access to are green, light green, yellow, and red. What would be a nice combination for grass that is in full glory? :) Btw, I have no access to ground foam. :( I am also considering using saw dust for scenecking. I can easily get a...

What are the look alikes of the Bachmann GP50(high hood)?

Thanks for the info. :) My engine roster is mostly made up of F7's and RDCs, so I'm more of the 1950's era guy. I just have a Bachmann GP50 which is a little odd for my era. Btw, the GP50 was a bargain in Beijing. Furthermore, I sometimes use F7's as FP7's for passenger service. I think it is...

What are the look alikes of the Bachmann GP50(high hood)?

If the F7A looks similar to a FP7A, am I correct to say that the Bachmann GP50 (high hood) looks like a GP40? If so, what can be considered noteworthy differences between a GP50 and a GP40?

I need help on "The Trunk Line" Atlas layout

Oooppsss... I think I didn't know what I posted. Are the Atlas remote snap switches the ones I should get for the turnouts of The Trunk Line? Are they considered to be "standard"(ie: they match the turnouts of other manufacturers)? Btw, I use Atlas code 100 tracks.

I need help on "The Trunk Line" Atlas layout

I do not know what Atlas Code 100 Mark IV left and right turnouts I should get. Should it be #4 or #6? What is considered to be the "standard" turnout between #4 and #6?

Where is it best to put a powered Athearn RDC unit?

I have three Athearn RDCs: 1 powered and 2 unpowered. Where would you think its best to put the powered unit? Sandwiched between the 2 unpowered ones, or as the lead unit? :)

Help on making your own cork roadbed

I'm going to make my own cork roadbed from locally available cork boards. I have access to one that has the same thickness as common cork roadbeds. My problem is how to slope the edges. So do you have suggestions? :) Also, am I correct that the slope at the edges don't have to be perfect like in...

    Billboards using common materials

I'm thinking of placing 1950's era bill boards on my layout. I can only do so with common materials since there is no model railroad shop here in the Philippines. Do you have some advice? :)

    Cigarette ash for weathering?

Thanks for the input. :) I liked the white and gray chalk in particular. I guess I'm going to the school supplies store. Is it done this way: 1) Pound the gray and white chalk together to powdery form 2) Use a small paintbrush to apply the powder Oh, btw, I'm thinking of not weathering my...

    Cigarette ash for weathering?

I've read somewhere that you can use cigarette ash for weathering. How is this done? Do I use a paintbrush and then dab things like engines and rolling stock? :)

Has anyone used super bright LEDs to light passenger cars?

Thanks for the info. :) I think I can also light up my Athearn RDCs with this method. Do you have tips on how I can power on and power off these button battery powered LEDs?

    1950's era passenger cars

I've discovered in the web that Santa Fe made a policy in the mid-1950s to stop using observation cars. I wonder why? Anyway, at least I have a car that I don't have to worry about. ;)

Has anyone used super bright LEDs to light passenger cars?

I'm just curious if this is possible. To be specific, I'll be having Athearn streamlined passenger cars. It might save me a little money, and electronic components are much easier to get here in the Philippines. Best of all, it might be fun. :)

    RDC rubber bands

I need a piece of advice regarding these Athearn RDCs. I have an Athearn RDC passenger train (1 RDC3 and 2 RDC1s). My parents are offering me to have them replaced with an ordinary Athearn F7A+B and 3 Athearn streamlined passenger cars(Santa Fe roadname). My only concern is to have a 1950's era...

    1950's era passenger cars

I need your help again. I'm considering to make a short Santa Fe passenger train. The engine will be a Santa Fe F7A+B combination. I'm planning to get an Athearn baggage and 2 Athearn coaches. Do you think this setup is plausible when seen? Or do you have other suggestions? :) Btw, all of the...
