I am sad, but I am back again

Ron, Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. It is indeed very hard to lose a parent or family member - it really hurts deep down inside. I lost my mother and my dad is not in the greatest of health. I know the day will come in the not too distant future when we will lose him...

    mad at ebay!!!

I just sold something on e-bay that took a jump in price in the last few seconds. I then received an e-mail from the winner that had the following as part of it: "I used AuctionSniper.com to win this item... Snipe eBay and win more auctions. Use what others are using to beat you! Unattended...

    Forested Hills & Fall Foliage

Last 6 or 7 days have been a little hectic; the hurricane had come and gone, small downed tree set upright, in and out of the hospital, and I finished redoing my backdrop in autumn colors. Like it better than the previous multiple shades of green. Now it's onto fixing a couple of bridges...

    Where is your layout located?

The new layout is in one of our bedrooms inside the house. A great improvement over the last layout which was in an unheated garage. Only problem is I have to be very careful with paint/plaster/glue/etc as the room is carpeted. Jim

    Hurricane Comming!!!

I got to take an ambulance ride to the hospital during the height of the storm and that was exciting. Came home to a small downed tree in the front yard two days later when the storm was over. Jim

    railroad memorabilia

I use to collect and trade railroad "date nails". The were metal (steel, iron, copper, aluminum) nails that some railroads use to hammer into the ties (usually top) when the tie was laid. The head of nail had the two digit year on it. It was to help the railroad know how long ties lasted in...

    Forested Hills & Fall Foliage

Thanks for the info Judy. The backdrop is coming along slowly; it's not something I really enjoy doing cause I don't think I have the right skill that's needed, but I think it will come out OK. I'm redoing the colors from multiple shades of green, to green, brown, red bright, red dull, orange...

    Hurricane Comming!!!

I'm just a little bit to the southeast of the 8AM Friday mark on the map that Pete posted. It's still early yet, but the rain and wind has already started. Should be exciting night. Jim in Martinsburg, WV

    Forested Hills & Fall Foliage

Judy, Well, I bit the bullet and started the repaint of my backdrop to get some Fall colors in the background. I think it was too dark green anyway. Wish me luck. Jim

    Forested Hills & Fall Foliage

Charlie & Judy, I'm impressed by your use of Fall colors which I think look really great. On my last layout the bushes and trees were a half-dozen shades of green. I think the Fall colors look so much better that I might do it myself. The only problem is that I would have to re-do my backdrop...

What kind of scenery do you like to model?

After I finish a couple of small bridges, I'll be starting on the new layout's scenery which is the part that I most enjoy. Western Pennsylvania type scenery with a couple of coal mines and some small industries. About 15 feet of river/creek to do. I haven't decided on how I'm going to do the...

    Updated some new layout photos

Appreciate the nice comments; thanks. I'm putting down cinders on the yard now and am working on the bridge supports, then it will be onto the scenery and creek. Was helping my Son move today so my old bones are aching. Jim

    Updated some new layout photos

I have added a few photograhs of my new layout on my site. Hopefully I will start on the scenery soon as the main line is now open for business. Trains can run although a few of the bridges are still held in place by foam. It's smaller than my old layout, but we must all live within our...

Some pictures of my scenery work

Judy, Great job on the scenery. The use of colors and attention to details make the scenes come alive. Just for reference, what brand of ground foam and trees did you use/make? Any other "construction" details or techniques that you would like to share? Jim

What do you use to power Circuitron Tortises? (Also, Atlas C55 + Circuitron!)

Jon, I used a number of them on the old layout and powered all of them with two simple DC wall transformers. I think I used the 9v ones. Jim

    Good Quality n scale Coal?

I did have some teeny tiny men with teeny tiny sledge hammers that made teeny tiny pieces of coal, but they all quit because their pay was too small....
