    Logging Flat Cars?

I would concur with Jim, Simpson is a household name here in Vernonia Oregon, which explains why I see those flat/bunk cars all the time in Longview (Nearest port).. FYI, Longview is an amazing modern river/rail logging port.. if your ever passing by on Interstate 5, go across the bridge into...

    Logging Flat Cars?

NIevo, I didn't realize you were seeking specific time/line sorry bout that.. I went strictly with 40' as I was more concerned with how the logs looked on the log trucks hahah... I took after some of the converted flat cars with the dremel and cut out large portions of the deck. I would like...

    Logging Flat Cars?

Hey I see these things all the time. I was specifically inspired by a totally trashed flat car with bunks that I would drive by on my way to work. It was my prototype and I had good luck with it. What turned out to be unusual about my choice of prototypes was that it only had TWO bunks, not...

    Double Crossover issues

adding to masonJars comments.. stretch out the double crossover a few feet and you have an operating passing siding.

    Electronics help...

interesting update; So, I'm heads down into designing a overhead log unloader, when my wife and I go "shopping" at the goodwill outlet (tons of junk, sold by the pound) what do I find while digging.. a miniature version of those arcade "Claw" games where you move the claw around to pick up some...

Is 4' by 8' large enough?

You might consider continuous loop but not everything on the loop. Say for example, a somewhat modified continuous oval in the lower end of the room, using the closet to hide parts of it, then a long spur off the loop that runs allows a shelf layout around the left, top, and right walls. This...

neat, what would you use to control the sequence? Anyone know where I can find some good pictures/info of a prototype claw like this. I have a design worked out from the little pick, but Id like to see some options..

    Electronics help...

OK, this thread has become my brain storming external storage.. lol.. I think Ill simplify the electronics, initially I had considered using mini servos and a Microcontoler as a PC joystick interface, but I see now that just adds complexity, just straight DC motors and swichtes might be...

    Electronics help...

When you say sequence, do you mean you just want to see it moving on its own? Me, Id want to actual run it! Coincidentally, I was just looking at the Cornerstone Series Log Unloader. This should be a great base for a functional animated log unloader/loader for a modern sawmill. Bash in some...

what do non railroaders think of your layout?

teeters: You, piqued my interest, are you in LE? Also, similar taste in music, mind you I don't go out to pits anymore, never really did, though I confess to instigating a few (former metal bass god/hair farmer/shoe gazer) Doing outdoor backyard shows in East LA naturally lent to some...

what do non railroaders think of your layout?

This post got me thinking that there must be some "secret" phase that we can use to identify other MR's without exposing our selves to the "you play with cho-chos" reaction. Lol... Any ideas? Thanks Dansco

RonP, Im an Idea guy. I have lots of ideas, sadly few make it past the keyboard. Lol.. anyway, Id like to throw out some ideas if you have a particular starting point, say what action you'd like to see, I'm sure we can come up with a way to do it. To get things rolling, Iv been toying with a...

    Small Modern Logger

pgandw: Oh, wow, I see it now. I would need a curved turn out I think. But now what you say makes sense. Iv never used a curved turnout, so it just didn't come up in my mind, sorry for being brick headed! I just noticed your sig, foggy Oregon coastal. Only I'm not "foggy Oregon" rather...

    capacitor?

Man I love this forum! I had no idea such a thing existed. I had a neat little engine with only 4 wheels that would stop in most all my snap switches, had I known about this I might not have sold it! Thanks

    Another new layout!

with multi use space, you may want to consider a shelf style layout that wraps around the room, this can mostly be narrow (less than a foot) with a few wide spots for big features. My next layout will almost be exclusively false fronts structures on a shelf layout with a loop at either end...

    Small Modern Logger

I tried last night to squeze in the trun outs like you sugested, no joy. Thers a mountain in the way. (note the log loading area is refrencing the upside down "y" shape in the lower right corner. These tracks are 6" ABOVE the spurs along the bottom) anyway. I did add the runaround in RED...
