    help with hump yard operation

Hello everyone, I am faced with a dilemma that hopefully someone can help me with. I have a humpyard and want to simulate the actual master retarder process of slowing the cars down before they hit the secondary retarders, but still having enough momentum to make it to the classification...

Mike, I did post a question on RR-Line, but it was similar to what I posted here. Good idea to post this in the Tech Q/A section though. So, what do you think of the new track plan?

    Rock Island Model Rosters

Morning, Okay, all of you guys should have the new MWDLRR track plan. Feel free to comment as you see fit. Got my structure/kit listing finally done. Now, all I have to do is figure out industries and names of industries. Now, would ANY of you see any areas on the layout plan that...

Mike, Glad you liked it. That was some work loading that into MSPaint and editing it, then saving it and compressing it. Sorry the map is so old though (1895). It was about the only decent one I could find that had the different railroads on it. I gave you guys that URL for that site a...

    Rock Island Model Rosters

Hey guys, Hopefully you all have received the map by now. The light blue is expansion of the ROCK's existing lines. I tried to make the file small, but was unsuccessful in my attempts. Anyhow, hope you guys enjoyed it, or at least it was informative. Have the FINAL draft of the...

George, Did you want the map of MO that I edited, sent to you? I tell ya what. I am just going to send it to you. If you dont want it, then just delete it. Yes, I would put those "fake" towns on the map, just like I did for the system map at my site. In fact, that is actually "the map"...

George, When you say you can run any rolling stock Mike can, are you referring to my idea of having some of each other's rolling stock on our own layouts, or that you are NOT running any 89' cars? Thanks. later guys.

    Rock Island Model Rosters

George, No problem there. As I said before, IF I could model a fictitious area inside a prototypical area....say there are a few towns that I made up, but I put them on the KC to STL ROCK sub, and they not only span the lower MOPAC Sedalia to Jeff City sub, they also stretch to BN/BNSF's W...

    Rock Island Model Rosters

George, Again, NO PLACE exists for the area that I am modeling. If I went and decided to model a real prototypical area, I would have to rename all of my routes, my shippers, my industries, etc. I do NOT want to do that. When I am talking about a system map, that is a MAP of the MWDLRR...

    Rock Island Model Rosters

George, This is where I differ from you guys. I am NOT modeling any prototypical area. But, to keep up the whole "corporate conglomerate", I have to put down the many roads I will have, and what their lines entail. So far, I am mapping IL, MO, MN, WI, and AK. I have finished mapping...

    Rock Island Model Rosters

Morning, Andy... Nope never seen it. Though I am keeping a list of videos you mention. :) Okay guys, I managed to get this Missouri map done, but be warned...it is HUGE! nearly 800KB in size. I am just going to attach it, rather than embed the image. At least I hope that is what...

    Rock Island Model Rosters

Hey guys, Here is something that I have thought about a little bit, but never really brought up. I came up with the idea that we could have some of each other's rolling stock on our own layouts. Now, how do we go about doing this? What is unique to my layout is the MWELX rolling stock...

Mike, I like the new graphical representation! Would your map happen to be blank?? That is what I am looking for, so I can get you guys a map of my lines. I really dread having to sort through all that clipart I have. Ehhh! Last time I was looking for something for someone for a...

    Rock Island Model Rosters

George, Do you have a map that shows the following states: Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Colorado, New Mexico, and Nebraska? I am looking for a good map to start on. I may have to look through my 1,000,000 piece collection of clipart...

    Rock Island Model Rosters

George, Complicated is an UNDERSTATEMENT! I just got back from BNSF.com... I have obtained all their system maps, intermodal maps, and different commodity maps. I also obtained their complete intermodal facilities list and station list. I hate to say how MANY states are in the BNSF...

    Rock Island Model Rosters

Andy, I see our lines are going to cross over in Tennessee. I will have to have my management dept get a hold of yours to setup trackage rights there. George, I believe our lines cross somewhere on the way to Aurora, so we will also have to setup trackage rights that way. My BN/BNSF...

Shane, Nice pic. All of us ROCKies here need to know where your lines are, and what areas they occupy? We do not want to cross into anyone else's line. Let us know. I am still working on my map, and I was kinda holding off till we knew where your lines were. Thanks.

Mike, If you run the 89' autorack and intermodal flat cars, you will have ONE HECK of a time getting those around even a 22 inch radius curve. More than likely they will derail. Atlas makes a 24-inch radius curve and even this does look out of place for the long intermodal and passenger...
