    speed limits in yards

Probably rather than "stop short", its stop "within one half the range of vision" of the object. Somewhere in the late 70's, early 80's pretty much all the roads went from the stop short to 1/2 the range of vision definition. In any case, "you break it, you bought it" applies. Dave H.

    speed limits in yards

First you have to define what you mean by "in a yard" and then you have to pick an era because the speeds and rules changed over time. If you are on the main track then you could be in yard limits. If you are on ANY other track, other than a main track, you are on "track other than a main...

    Car card/waybill operation...is something missing?

Returning to the orginal question I guess I don't understand what happens in the yards. 1. When a car is pulled from an industry, where does the waybill send it, to a location on the layout, to a location off the layout, to the yard to hold? 2. If the car is going to a location off the layout...

I have built a couple of them in MS Access and they are available for download from the CarCards or Rwy-ops-industrial Yahoo Groups files section. They are intended to generate car cards and waybills for operations, but intentory your stuff too. Dave H.

How to scratchbuild a boat like this?

You could start with a smaller scale ship model for the hull, and main deck, then scratchbuild the deckhouse and pilot house. Revell made a fire boat that would be a really good start for that type of boat if a little big. I think RDA makes a boat similar to what you are trying to do. Dave1905

Help me with a layout brainstorm!

I wouldn't have steep grades with small steamers. They lose a lot of pulling power on grades (as did the real thing). If you MUST have a turntable, one option is a "links" turntable. One turntable serving two places. Put a backdrop (divider down the middle of the layout, stopping about a...

SP in Texas track plan and operating plan, what do you think?

I would change the rock crusher to a rock distributor, and aggregate plant that recieves carloads of rock and distributes them to construction sites. Much more common around chemical plants than a crusher. The crushers are mostly in the San Antonio-Austin area and the chemical plants along the...
