    Armco Barriers?

You've given me an idea! How about the corrugated bit out of the middle of bean tins? Can anyone tell me the overall depth of an armco barriers (top to bottom) and thickness (front to back). Please don't get run over finding these out! I should have said that I'm working in H0. Thanks for...

    Someone asked about trees...

Do these pages vanish? If so feel free to shuffle anything useful onto other pages if they're worth keeping. No pics... don't have a clue how to do them and hate going through the "How to" lists because I always fall into the bit that is left out 'cos "everyone knows you do that..."...

Modelling short to medium lentgh grass

Grass, grasses and stuff 2 Alexander... there's more truth in that than you know. Mown grass can be right down to <1/3" which is minute in H0 and almost nothing in N... so spraying a smooth surface green... or greens with yellows would probably actually do better than using any granular or...

Modelling short to medium lentgh grass

Grass and grasses... and stuff Use the same faux fur and a pair of scissors! :) Or, if you're doing a large area use the Wahl trimmers they're getting the oil for. Here I kick into mad ideas mode... Even a lawn is rarely made up of just one grass. Anyone here who aims for a "perfect lawn"...

    Someone asked about trees...

As Dr Wayne knows I have a tendency to medium length posts. Thanks for th kind comments. As I'm new I'm finding my way round the forum. Would it be an idea if I posted in the general discussion so that stuff gets seen easily by anyone/everyone and then the moderators shift it over to the...

    Someone asked about trees...

Here's some notes I posted elsewhere with regard to autumn trees... but it includes my way of building trees by unwinding the lattice of thin protecting wire stripped from co-ax and other armoured cables. Hope it's useful :) Are you somewhere where you can go out and look at the foliage and...

OOPS! Wrong link... but look at the second thumbnail from the top. that thing is a Loram Railgrinder... from other pics I can tell you that the last car is either a special or a converted caboose for firefighting and the two cars in front are water tanks to supply it. this means that they...

Latest Weathering Attempt for Critique Please

Okay...here's a starter that I just had put concisely by the military modellers. When painting figures do not paint any face details... just use a dark wash and wipe most of it off leaving tiny amounts in the "crevices". When dry and seen at normal distance this will leave enough impression to...

    New road needed please

Pity you ripped it all up... sounds just like a lot of real roads to me. They put them down and before you know it great chunks are dropping out or someone comes along and rips a whole strip out to bury TV cable. No sooner have they patched that and someone else digs across them for a drain...

    Potted history and geography

I've been getting some great help over on the MRR forum in the form of potted history of the US plus bits of geography. (I'm over here now because the system has locked up on me again... hope this one doesn't). Anyway... I was thinking that setting up some regional potted history threads...

Latest Weathering Attempt for Critique Please

 Hey Dr Wayne... remember I'm English. We embarrass easily! :) Don't yet know if I can edit a post here... As soon as I finished the last one I remembered two things... 1. When weathering hoppers and covered hoppers I take the weathering around and inside the ends and double it up...

Latest Weathering Attempt for Critique Please

May I suggest that your work is a good start? As Dr Wayne says thinning the paint more will give a thinner wash. Someone else has suggested rust. There are loads of ways of doing rust and every degree of it from the delicate wash out of iron oxide from behind bubbled paint to wondering how much...
