    Thursday the 5th. Got MOW?

I have some all lettered for Santa Fe. Includes two flatcars w/home-bashed rails and ties, a tool car, a sleeper, 200 ton crane, one crane and boom tender, three tankers-oil, diesel, and water, and a gondola. One of the flatcars is Walthers, the tankers are Roundhouse, the rest are Athearn. I...

    EZ Mate Couplers

In the long run KD's will prove to be more reliable and less expensive in my experience. The plastic springs on the EZ Mates like the the older McHenry's will not last long. On railcars that I use everyday, the average lifespan is about 3-4 months at best. KD's on the other hand have lasted over...

Mid week the 4th; Going It Alone

Loner here also. The closest club is 30 miles away. It's a good one, but I cannot adjust my sleeping schedule to attend meetings and still get home at a reasonable time. I get up at 3:30 am, so I rarely am awake past 9:00. Waiting on retirement!!!!!

    Weekend Question 9 - 30 - 06

Well I have changed my era. I used to model 50's and 60's Santa Fe but moved ahead to late 70's through early 90's Santa Fe. I had a couple of reasons. I was able to relate more to my new time frame...I don't have to rely on hazy memories of the 60's. Secondly, I just like the more massive...

    Wednesday 9-27

Helped my dad with his extensive Lionel layout from 1958 til 1969. Graduated high school that year and didn't get back until 1984 or 1985 in HO. Train bug is big in my family, two brothers split dad's stuff (one added it to his own extensive collection) my third brother models in HO. I'm the...

    Tuesday, Do You Operate?

I participate in one-man operating sessions on my own layout. I use carcards and waybills and I basically sequence so I can stop at any time and pick-up where I left off next time. There are no model railroaders within 20 miles of me. The closest club is 30 miles away and they only have modules...

    Monday Have You Been There?

I believe in supporting my LHS rather than some faceless Internet site. I go every 2-3 weeks and buy many items each time. Of course, my LHS makes all customers feel welcome and he knows me by name, as well as my likes and preferences. I don't mean to knock Internet sites as they are the only...

    Gluing sheet styrene question

For a permanent bond I would use Testor's liquid styrene cement or Testor's in the tube. In my experience, carpenters glue only works with wood, cardboard or paper. CA or Walther's Goo might also work.

    Discussion at the Cement Distributor

Great looking scene Tom. Many modelers don't understand how much figures/vehicles add to the realism.

    I Have A New Basement!

More pictures of the house please...it looks like it would make an interesting model.

    Thursday and What Car?

A tie here. I like boxcars for the same reasons as Don. I also like covered hoppers since I have five grain elevators on my layout.

I Picked Trash Now I am in The Doghouse

It's called "recycling". I've collected 9 pieces of 32 x 48 homosote sheets, many pieces of scrap lumber and lots of discarded speaker wire.

    BNSF Freight Train

Your weathering looks great, I think weathering really makes a model railroad stand out. Just one additional comment, it's your railroad and I'm not really a rivet-counterand I don't mean to be offensive; but that EL roofwalk boxcar would never be seen on a BNSF train, it does look out of place...

Tuesday Right Out of the Box or Modify?

Rolling stock whether RTR or kits, gets metal wheels, Kadees, graffiti sometimes, and weathering. Buildings are a different story. All of them get Dull-cote, some get additional paint and weathering first, all get added details. A few select ones get some kitbashing or re-arranging of parts; for...

    Sunday 9 - 17...

Mine is in a 12 x 32 room I built attached to the backside of my barn. It's no longer holding up too well after 20 years; barn was built with second-hand lumber and wall is warping on me. I am going to build a new freestanding building (25 x 40 planned) next spring. Current partial layout was...

    Friday Snap, Flex, Hand

Nearly everything. I use mostly Atlas flextrack and Custom Line turnouts, but have some sectional track and Snap Track switches. No plastic roadbed however, I use traditional cork. I even use some old brass flextrack on sidings and storage tracks, only where electrical conductivity is not important.

    Thursday Dees and Cees!

DC for me. Like ezdays, I have too many locos to spend time and money converting. I'd rather build structures or do scenery. Besides I am a one-man operation so I have no need for DCC. It is cool however...maybe after I retire.

    Hump Day: Build or Roll?

No RTR buildings or other structures here. I have started to buy a few RTR railcars even though I prefer the kits, Athearn, Accurail, MDC and P2K. The only RTR railcars I still purchase are Athearn and Athearn/Roundhouse. The metal wheels, prototype couplers, and other details that they add...
