    Christmas List

I want to win the lottery so I have more time to use what I've already got. Christmas is the one time a year I get a ticket!

    Here comes Rita!

Charles, I'm not sure if I will make it to the Lockheed show this year. I don't know what the wife has on our social calendar yet. They have a great layout in their building. Some of it is still under construction but all of the trackwork is operational. Their layout is also open during the...

    Here comes Rita!

Well Rita turned northeast and ended up missing me completely. The closest the rain got was about 45 miles east. We did finally cool off for at least a day. Hope Lynn and Charles made it through OK since it appears that they got lots of rain.

    Here comes Rita!

I'm about 50 miles north of the DFW area. We're expecting lots of rain and 40-50 mph winds when it finally stalls out. I'm already in "tornado alley" and this type of weather is not all that unusual; but it is supposed to last a few days (that's unusual), when it stalls out just east of here...

    Using brass rails

Before I knew better I bought some brass rail. Rather than throwing it away, I have re-used some of it on industry spurs and storage tracks that I normally don't run engines on. Once weathered you can't tell the difference. The 15 lengths of flextrack I bought are now part of an off-layout...

Recommendations on: Turnouts, switch motors, etc.

Like richhotrain, I have 50+ Atlas #6 turnouts and I have no problems with them. I have holes under them for eventual under the table switch machines but I currently use a combination of ground throws and fingers to operate them. DON'T use the Atlas Under the Table Switch Machines...absolutely...

    Rolling stock

I have about 45 Accurail freight cars and continue to buy them. Tom explains the fix to all of the problems that I have also experienced...at least half of my coupler cover pins have broken. amd all of the wheels need replacing. To Accurails credit, I have been getting a few lately that have...

    walthers kit

I agree with Don that each kit needs to be looked at differently. I have assembled two of the ADM kits and fifer is right, the seams are in a terrible location. I assembled the shells first, filled in the seams, painted and then installed the windows. Meanwhile, I painted the roofs and other...

    Trains surging through switch tracks

Just found this post... forget all the stuff about meters and shorts...steamhead has the correct answer. You're getting power from two powerpacks at once. Do as brakie says and use some Atlas selectors and correctly align the switches (selector switches) and the problem will go away.

    Grain Elevator Diorama

Nice work Tom. One question though, where's a picture of your real workbench? I wish I could find that much clear surface!

    Other hobby's?

I do organic vegetable gardening, internet surfing, NASCAR, (I'll be at Texas Moter Speedway this Sunday), and I'm beginning to experiment with photography. Although it isn't a hobby, I have a fifteen acre yard that keeps me busy outdoors quite a bit. I don't watch television except for hockey...
