    Has anyone done it?

Woody, as it happens, I got my locobuffer and was able to control our christmas layout (4x6' HO) with a laptop running Linux and JMRI. Was pretty slick, can't wait to try it on the one we're building! :D

    basement train

It sounds like you may just be condensing water (cool concrete + warm moist air) Either a dehumidifier or something to soak up the moisture (pot bellied stove maybe during the winter months?) probably will certainly help. If you don't have something to measure humidity, check Radio Shack, they...

I couldn't tell you, I'm in the same boat! :D All I wanted was a little layout! :D

    Am I off Base?

That can happen, and sometimes does. One thing I think ALL retailers should do is A) Use a computer POS(point of sale) system, B) NEVER use the mfg bar codes, print your own, and C) only take returns with the packaging. We all lose a receipt once in a while (well, maybe not all of us, I'm...

    basement train

L-Train, we have a humidity problem in our basement, and solved in in a unique way. I never gets "wet" down there (aside from the water line, which used to condense water). When I started working on bench work, as it's winter, I would get cold toes, so rather then put carpet down (since I'm...

    Am I off Base?

I know from having run some retail operations, that while shrinkage is a concern, someone that frequents the store on a weekly basis probably should be given the benifit of the doubt and allowed to make the exchange. My policy was always that if the product was unused, not restricted (such as...

    Do you visit Google Ads?

I was looking at a site linked to by a Google Ad from The Gauge, and I'm curious how many people click on these? I personally follow at least one ad that interests me every day. Partially because I am always finding new stuff this way, and partially because I know it helps the site out (Some...

    Good morning from the UK

Your likely to get many answers. Me, I use the joiners, and some brads to lay track until I'm happy with it. Once I have everything just so I like to ditch the joiners and silver solder the rails right before I weather them. Takes longer, but spending time to solder and then file each joint...

Buzzing (ground loop) with TMCC operation!?!?!

If it is 60hz hum, call around for a Tripp Lite Isobar. This is an AC filter that will help with the hum (it's actually a harmonic hum created by flourescent lights, inverters, inappropriate premise grounding, and even microwave ovens/equipment). We had a problem with this when we installed our...

I feel the need to get shot tonight...

That's one thing I love about my wife, we have very simular hobbies, Guns, Trains, Paintball, music, engines, we do them all together. She doesn't do as much carpentry as me, and I almost never sew, but hey, everyone needs their own hobby now and then. :D

    testing

My favorite is irfanview http://www.irfanview.com/ This thing will read durn near anything that isn't patented, resize, crop, sharpen, blur and everything. The price is right, I would of course use the download links from his page, to be sure it hasn't been trojaned.

I feel the need to get shot tonight...

TO WOMEN EVERYWHERE... FROM A MAN WHO'S HAD ENOUGH! 1. Learn to work the toilet seat. If it's up, put it down. We need it up, you need it down. You don't hear us bitching about you leaving it down. 2. ALL men see in only 16 colors. Peach is a fruit, not a color. 3. If you won't dress like...

Hoping to start a new career

I agree with you about dangerous. Believe it or not, I felt safer climbing microwave towers then pulling into quite a few truck stops! Depending on the company, a lot of the guys in the States get a concealed weapons permit, or at least carry a firearm in the cab. I never did until I had an...

    Completed Powerplant Bash

I agree with anyone else, and the "add-on" is perfect, I have yet to see an industrial building like a power plant go very long without something getting added on. You did a beautiful job there as well!

    Voltage regulation

Something that just popped into my head, is the power decrease happening well away from the connection to the Tech4? If so, run a second set of wires from the Tech4 to the midpoint of the track. As it sounds like a temporary track, you may also have some loose/dirty connections at the joiners...

    Voltage regulation

Welcome to The Gauge. From what your describing your pulling too many amps/too much grade. Once you exceed the current capacity of the pack, the voltage will drop, causing you to loose speed. I don't know what the current (or VA) of the pack is, but I would expect it's overloaded. Also, if...
