    Atlas Turnout Alternative

As I mentioned, UniTrack turnouts are set up for manual control - no extra parts required. So you can be a brakeman. They're also easy to control electrically. So you can be a towerman. They don't require any fussing with the frogs, etc. So you can run trains instead of messing with the...

    Atlas Turnout Alternative

Since you're going with code 80, I'd bite the bullet and go for UniTrack turnouts. They're easily mated with flex track and they're bullet proof! A joy to install and operate compared to other makes. They also have a built in spring and will even operate as spring-switches. They can be...

    Staging yards.

The reverse-loop yard is exactly what exists on the New York & Long Branch, a branch line running from Perth Amboy to Bay Head, NJ. The Bay Head Yard is the end of the line and is inside a reverse loop. At one time, the road was run jointly by PRR and CNJ. We watched the K4s get watered at...

    Doodlebug - Spectrum

I need some help here. I bought a Spectrum Doodlebug undecorated and need to remove body and window glass for painting. Will someone give me a step-by-step please. It runs like a jack rabbit. Has anyone replaced the motor with a lower speed one? If so, which one and how? All other...

    LL SW1200 Wormgear Problems

Why not return the loco to Life-Like for repair? They'll most likely send you a whole new engine for free. Just call 1-800-638-1470 to make the arrangements. Ask for a new worm gear and they'll send you an engine. Beats paying for the brass worms and then having the hassle of installing...

    Block wiring

First, LADs won't run on AC. They'll blow out. You must convert the AC to DC with either a Bridge Rectifier or a 1N4001 as I suggested, Second, the resistor is inserted in the lead from the LED to the power terminal. Or in the lead from the switch to the LED. Either one will work so pick...

    Block wiring

ALWAYS use a resistor with an LED!!!!!!! They will not limit the current and need a resistor to do so reliably. In your case, assume about a 2 volt drop on the LED so using the 23 volt output, 23 - 8 = 15 volts must drop across the resistor. Assume 20 ma. will make the LED plenty bright...

    Block wiring

Art stores have self stick tapes in various colors that make for neat track diagrams on a panel. I've used 1/4 inch white on a masonite panel sprayed gray. Then sprayed clear flat to seal the tape. Finally the holes are drilled and the switches mounted at the appropreate spots on the...

    Life-like rolling stock?

Brakie, I have 2 Atlas NE-6 cabooses on order, but they won't do for the eastern coal haulers like Lehigh Valley, Reading, etc. They used NE-5 cabooses for which the Life-Like is a not too wonderful example, but it's the only game in town. Please Atlas!!!!!!!!!! I also have the...

    Life-like rolling stock?

LL is the only NE-5 caboose on town. So, until Atlas decides to do this one, I have to run LL cabooses. Ray
