LIRR, i don't know if this is an "around the wall" type layout... but i would be a little wary of being able to reach the corners on the right side of the pic. ...i see the 4 track yard in the upper left...how about if that was extended all the way down and made into a double ended yard? another...

if you're gonna stick with atlas c80 sectional... ditto what LIRR said... 11" min., 19" preferable... on the other hand....if you decide to go with other types of track or flex-track, try to keep your radii above 15-16" if you plan to use really large loco's and cars and don't want that...

yes...this is a "loaded" question ;) since its your layout, you should go with what you like and feel comfortable with... think long term, and weight the different factors of each scale to see which you like the most. cid has given a good "low-down" of the different scales... n...larger layout...

the prototype for the atlas mogul is actually a meter gauge made by porter. in fact its so small...the atlas/micro ace was made in 1:130 so it could be used in n-scale. its unfortunate that it has some problems (slow speed, stalling)... but i might get it anyways... it'll go nicely next to my...

i'm using it for my layout along with the WS risers and inclines.

here's the pic of my layout with the "halved" inclines... as you can see at the bottom of the pic... the track doesn't fit exactly where i placed the inclines (actually not a problem for me since i'll be handlaying and not using the 9 3/4" sections)

dwight77, i have separated risers and inclines. it is possible, but i don't recommend it. for one, its easy to ruin the spacing and this could lead to problems on inclines. for another, the riser/incline will now be EXACTLY the width of the roadbed... so, the risers will have to be installed...

ebaines, i believe among the stall motor switch machines, the tortoise is (by far) the best selling. everyone i've asked "which switch machine do you recommend and/or use"... has told me the circuitron tortoise.
