Hello and a Question or two

hello john, and welcome :) i think will's suggestions are great. the paper creek models looks increadible. or, of course, you can scratchbuild your own! all you'll need is some sturdy cardstock, and maybe some scale lumber. just remember that if you're flying... don't take glues or paints in...

Now for something completely different (More little brothers track plan)

lirr, the yard, and carfloats look nice. you can do some nice operations. building up trains, breaking them down, transfering etc. but will you be content with plain simple ovals? the first of the two (with the ess) seems better, but i don't like the grades. the second looks pretty boring.

Now for something completely different (More little brothers track plan)

nice looking plan!:) tips...hmm... first off...the space between the pier and the right side of the layout is too small. if you can, move the pier over to the left. or tilt it leftish, instead of rightish. (moving the 3 track yard that comes back over to the right side might help) or best...a...

    original looking coupling

uwe, i recommend micro-trains z-couplers... MT #905 (assembled, body mount) (i don't recommend the #903 which is the same in kit form...unless you are very good with very small parts, but still once those springs go flying...)

    Layout #2 "It has begun"

shaun, imho, access could definitely be a concern! at the corner! that track is (slightly) over 4' from the edge... try to see if you can reach that far (like on a kitchen table) without putting the other hand down... if you can...than its all good

    Supplies have arrived!

johnnybsoaring... its a gauge problem with the #5's i'm not sure on the #7's as i've never tried them out. the tolerances are very tight. unless the loco/rolling stock wheels are absolutely in gauge, they end up (usually) riding over the guard rail. sean, i look forward to your pics. thats an...

Free N and HO scale ruler

printing it to scale shouldn't be a problem... its a pdf file... and if the print drivers and all are o.k. it should print to the right size. i'm gonna try it as soon as the network is up and going again (reformatting one of the comp's) frank, i don't see a link to a "downloads" theres a "free...

    N Scale Question

welcome to the gauge vinman:) i'll just add to will's... 1. you can check out nmra's guide to min. radii (RP-11 practices/standards...depending on loco and rolling stock size)... http://www.nmra.org/standards/rp-11.html 2. yep...rail joiners...you can solder the joiners, but remember, if it...

    Japanese N Scale Railroads

excellent site!!! i was thinking of doing a japanese layout too. i've put it on the back burner though....and concentrating on the early steam. since right now i don't have the space to run a full length shinkansen (my fav. is the 500) properly.

Large Z Scale Layout - What's It Worth?

dan, as scott mentioned...it does depend on what someone is willing to spend (ergo subjective)... but you can start off with a more objective value... the actual value of the materials/loco's/equipment/etc. that are part of the layout... and add on (or subtract) to that the other things that are...

Large Z Scale Layout - What's It Worth?

dan its very hard to estimate the value of a layout...esp. anothers. as its very subjective...pics would help... the following is not in any particular order, but are some factor to consider in est. a (raw) value: first...locomotives and rolling stock second...a list of the kits/items/etc. that...
