    Converting a John Armstrong Plan

i've used (parts of) plans to make other plans. if you can post the plans you're thinking of, i'm sure someone here can help you to decipher them :)

i've seen a station similar to this, but not with the mexican/spanish style central walls. if i can find it, i'll post.

derailing prob - need track finetuning tips

eckstara, are the derailments occuring going into the TO's? or at the points or frogs? for joiners, i just slip them on. can do it by hand, but you need to be careful... its easy to punch a hole in your finger since the edges are sharp. once one piece of track has joiners on, i place it on a...

    My Track Plan

doc, looks good, i see you only have one connection between the two loops. how about another one so you wouldn't have to go in reverse to get back?

Info on "Der Adler" minitrix trainset

nice looking set. it probably is british n-scale of 1:148 looking at the measurements. the guy is tall, but i've noticed that sometimes, companys do that. just a little sloppy, or maybe just for ease, and to show more detail.

    Need Input on New Layout

sounds good jeremy, with the TO on the slope... if you like it, and it would help operations. try it out, and see how it is. i was just pointing out a potential problem area. i look forward to some progress pics :)

    Finding n scale vehicles

will, i suspect that the "10mm scale" refers to miniatures (wargamming). 20mm, if memory serves me, is roughly 1:72... it is equated with HO, and some use it as such. so then, 10mm would be 1:144, "close enough" for n scale. (actually, i think some u.k. manufacturers use, or used, the 1:144...

    Mission acccomplished (trucks/wheel sets)

bob, thats an interesting area you're modeling. kind of like a "nexus" between other major roads. are you from that area? familiar with it? do you know or have a track plan of the rails (past and present) of that area? (added)... did that area have its own local rr? or was it all just kind of a...

    Big Boy N Scale

yep, there is the CC/RR big-boy...if you can find it ;) they do come up for auction on occasion, and seem to command good prices. but be sure to ask questions...you wouldn't want a $300+ lemon ;) they were updated, and the newer ones have much better motors :) also, remember one thing...you...

    Brass Dash 8-39 B

brass, is very labor intensive. a long time ago (and to an extent even today), many road specific locos were only available in brass. also, brass has much more detail, but many of todays plastic shell loco's have bridged the gap and some even compete. being so expensive, and relatively poor...

    Finding n scale vehicles

george, the 1890s-1900 miniatures... are they true 1:160 scale? i somehow suspect they may be more like 1:144 or so.

    Need Input on New Layout

jeremy, just a quick few Q's... you mentioned a mountain on the left side, with the main in a tunnel... is the TO coming off the main to a spur track inside the tunnel? i don't think TO's inside tunnels is something that is prototypically done (if that matters). but i'm more concerned about...

    train v non train

groove, for me, i like "pockets" of activity interspersed with "lulls". basically, areas with intense activity like packed yards and industries... and areas of serene country side and long runs. of course, as you mentioned, space limitations need to be taken into account. so, unfortunately, the...

    Track Plan 9385

7'x5' layout? you may want to give yourself space on all sides... if you have to put against a wall, then consider the "short" sides. otherwise you may have trouble reaching some areas. looking at the plan.... are you planning any elevations in the track? it doesn't seem conducive to it. imo...
