Last night I made some changes to my layout. I now have 2 bridges. My risers and foam for the in-between elevations are pinned down to the foam bed. What adhesive works best for glueing foam or styrofoam to the foam base? Ed

On my way to the best stocked and most informative train shop here, I stopped at a small hobby store that was going out of business. They sold mostly models. As I was walking out, the guy asked what I was looking for.....long story short.....he brought a big box out of the back room. Dusty...

I removed everything from the layout except track and foam. Thinking about how to mark the track for laying down the cork trackbed and painting the base foam. Wouldn't it be easier to paint the foam base leaving 1/4" around the track. I have some light brown latex paint. Ed

Got the Walthers trucks yesterday and put them on the Athearn cars and they ran great. Too bad I only have ORE cars! Ed

Ralph said: From what I've read, cork track bed makes the track look more realistic, since most train tracks are higher than the ground around them. I've seen alot of layouts at shows and most of them use the cork even on top of a foam base. I plan on using cork on my tracks except in...

I went to a Train store and picked up a set of Walthers 933-1018 and Proto2000 #21253 trucks. Put them on the 2 of the Athearns Quad Ore cars and they both ran fine! The guy at the store said he has had to loosen one of the trucks on some cars. I tried that on the other 4 with no luck. I guess...

They seem to move as well as the Walthers, but I'll give it a shot. Ed

Today I went to a train show that was one of the first shows I went to last year. I remember there being 1 or 2 train clubs with layouts there. I figured I'd pick their brains about my train problems. I took both my Bachmann Locos, the two Athearns Blue Box kit cars that I put the McHenry...

I glued weights into 4 boxcars tonight. They are now between 4 oz and 4.2 oz. Tomorrow I'm going to take all the raised foam and try running the trains flat. If they run smooth I'll replace the last part of Flex track with sectional and put the risers back up. Ed

That's what I though considering I am using probably the cheapest DCC system. Do the more expensive DCC systems let you program them to pickup speed on upgrades and slow down on downgrades? No the Chessie will probably just sit somewhere as a part of the layout. Maybe I'll use the cars I...

How did you get into the hobby?

Almost 2 years ago I found a 1950's Marx Trainset in the garbage at the Apartment Community I work at. Commodore Vanderbilt Engine, coal tender, 4 cars and a cabose. The track and transformer were in the box, so I set it up on the floor at home and it RAN. Thinking it may be worth some money I...

It is therapy and a goal I want to accomplish. I would feel better if the trains ran right and I could bitch about the scenery! If I were to do it all over.....I would use flex track on the flat sections and sectional track on the raised areas and the raised curves. I pinned the track down...

I weighed my cars tonight. Most are under 3 oz. I'll be glueing weight to them! Mostly it's an uncoupling problem. I DO have a slow down on the upgrades, which may be a power problem. Both trains speed up on the down grade and then go back to normal speed on the flat track. Since I don't...

what other hobbies you guys have

I collect Pez. My Avatar is 2 Pez guns from the early 1980's that were recalled because "you'll shoot your eye out"! LOL I used to collect antique Bottoles. Mostly Ink bottles and some Poisens. Used to go on digs at dump sites and fished some out of Lake Erie when they dug for the "Inner...

Sorry about my rant 2 posts ago. I was depressed with all the work I've done and that things aren't working out the way I hoped. The next day I put more cars on and the problems returned! I removed MOST of the flex track with sectional track and ran 2 locos with 1 car each. They ran around...

Resoldiered the sticky flex track joint and ran the train around for 1/2 hour with no problems. Switched the turn outs and they still ran smooth.

Tom and anyone else following this thread. I said the Loco couplers were lower, I'm BAD...they are higher. Remember that I'm new to all this but love what I've seen with peoples layouts. I'm also ADS (Attention Deficit Syndrome) and CDS (Compulsive Disorder Syndrome). This means that when I...
