Agreed I'm afraid I'll have to agree with Woodie: there is no way you'll fit that trackplan in 4.5 x 7. here are a few 4x6 layouts (mostly ovals) that might be of more interest, expanding them to a 4x7 basically means adding a straight to each long side this one has a small yard...

Here's what I use. It holds 45 cars nicely. It won't hold passenger equipment or a Mallet, but handles most engines and freight ok. a few of these should work for your stuff.

Is the 4.5x7 ft area will be for an L-shaped layout or for a traditional 4x8 style layout? do you want a loop for continuous running? or a bend-the-corner shelf switcher?
