Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

Just checking out the scalescenes.com site and WOW, check out this new Factory-warehouse! Scalescenes.com - UT026 Factory-Warehouse Very cool with great possibilities for expansion/kitbashing. Anyway, as you can see from my signature, I'm working on completing an old project. I've got...

    SS Ltd Timber Gantry

88fan1...likewise, I have 'a few' kits in various stages of completion set on the shelves. Which crafstman kit did you build and how did it come out? Speaking of back ordered, when I began work on this kit I noticed it was missing one part but had one too many of another...it was a simple...

Don't laugh too hard...It's my first attempt!

Will there be any interior 'details'? (Viewblocks at least...fake machinery or even simulated conveyors?) Awesome job so far! Looking forward to seeing the finished product! Oh, and what about lighting? Now's the time to plan that in!

Don't laugh too hard...It's my first attempt!

Steve, sounds like you're doing it just the way I have been. I too upload directly from the pc using the paperclip to pull up the upload menu. SO I'm not sure what the difference is. Looking forward to the mine shots, but no hurry, take your time and enjoy it!

How do you fasten tracks with the option of changing them in the future?

If you can find it in the Philippines, homasote (or an equivalent pressed paper underlayment) makes a great base into which spikes and nails can be pushed and then removed with more ease than from plywood. Prying nails from a wood base can be very damaging to track. Cork is not as good since the...

Don't laugh too hard...It's my first attempt!

Um...technical question, so delete this post after you answer it, if you want. How come you got the three photos embedded in the message as well as three 'attached thumbnails' at the end (but before your signature)?

Work was progressing up until a couple days ago when family came in for a visit. I enjoy visiting with them so it's on hold while they're here and we work on various other projects around the house and yard. So far the work has been installing the remaining nbw castings in the bents and...

How do you fasten tracks with the option of changing them in the future?

Even more quick and dirty - use twist ties, looped around the ties at the joint, assuming you're using sectional track without prefab roadbed. This holds the pieces together but not down to the surface. IN fact, it can make a wavy, bumpy ride if not done well. But this is one advantage...

    Question about brass 2-8-4 steamer?

I second Russ' idea of a fan-trip or excursion train. Make it a NRHS special with a whole variety of liveries in one train. Could give you an opportunity to collect one passenger car from each road name you like. OR, put it on the head of an old circus train. C&NW did that back in the 80's...

The boards on the sidewalks are an excellent addition! I can hear footsteps cathunking along with the occasional plank creaking. Are you planning for interior lighting?

    Question about brass 2-8-4 steamer?

Some friend! All I got from mine was an old Mantua 0-4-0 Shifter! (Actually, I'm thrilled to have received that...it was his Dad's and it still ran smoothly with the original motor after a little cleaning...and now I'm in the process of turning it into a silk purse, when I work on it every so...

Work in Progress Alrighty...after my rant/blog entry about Craftsman Kits, I decided to go ahead and pull out the Timber Gantry and work on it. We'll see how far I get. Here's a picture of my portable workbench on the dining room table. It's a 2'x2' project panel - precut, good quality...

    My First Layout (R&R Rail)...

Looks like you've got some tight turns there. What's your minimum radius (or did I miss that in previous posts)?

    SS Ltd Timber Gantry

Has anybody here built the Scale Structures Limited Timber Gantry? I had started it a few years ago then put it away. Installing all those nbw castings was getting really tiring. The result looks fantastic, but it's kinda boring after a while. I'm considering pulling it back out and working...

    Where is your layout situated?

Right now it's along one side of the garage, on track shelving that I installed to hold the layout and magazines below. The box on the left is an 'extension' which will serve as staging. The layout needs a blue sky board behind it, but I'm not sure what I'll do behind the staging. It will...
