    Passenger Car Wash Rack

David, Heres a link to a manufacturer's site for mobile & stationary wash units. http://www.railquip.com/Pages/prod05.htm The phot osn't too clear, though. Railroad/industrial equipment info can usually be found through manufacturer's listings in the Thomas Register...

Track Laying Tip #1 from Andy

Whenever this subject arises and someone mentions problems they attribute to track expansion, given the small temperature swings most layouts are subjected to, I always wonder how much is due to the expansion of the rails and how much is actually related to the roadbed and benchwork material. I...

    Incline Railway

Interesting car design. Is there a prototype? I've never seen a car braced up to ride horizontally up an inclined railroad. I have a book on Alpine railroads in in the Alps and can't spot this arrangement. My only personal experiences is riding the Mount Washington Cog Railway and for a while...

hey guys, heres a new plan to look at....

I agree, the turntable is too far from the yard. It is crying out to moved to the upper left corner, between the 2 mainlines, even if it requires making the benchwork a bit deeper to accomodate it. Or on a small peninusla extending into the open space as mentioned previously. The area where...

    Is this a possability??

The two-part urethane foam I use for hills & contours is yellowish. Not a "screaming yellow or a schoolbus yellow. More muted. Some of the old urea formaldehyde foam was yellow. Wayne

    Whimsical Notions

The Muddy Creek RR will be serving the largest Tofu feedlot and packing plant east of the Mississippi. Tofu on the hoof brought to the feedlots up in the clearcut timberland, fattened & the white, wafer-thin cattle sent to slaughter. Reefers in and reefers out of the packing plant off to...

    Questions about foam?

Weight is a big issue on my layout with some portable and moveable sections. I've been using DAP lightweight spackling for cracks and to sculpt rock cuts. When they call it light weight, they're not kidding. I thought the can was empty at the store until the clerk opened it to show me. If...

Anyone familiar w/White Motor Bus Co.?

The photos silver mentioned are in the Rails In The North Woods book. I hesitate to post anything from the book out of respect for the publisher, copyright laws and the fact that now isn't really a good time for me to get sued. It is a rough & tumble chain-driven bus. From the pphoto, it looks...

    "Melina's Camp"

Looks tight but if you have room you might try a Barnhart loader. I've never seen a picture of one moving logs from one car to another, but it's not inconceivable that it could be used for that. I've seen a photo of one on a barge pulling logs from the water. Heres a link to Barnharts on the...

    Is this a possability??

I have little problem using white glue with the pink foam on my layout. I keep a supply of finishing nails handy & use them to hold the pieces while the glue is drying. They're easy to pull out later. Wayne

    Adirondack sawmill questions

I think it will be a good starting point. Some details are different, louvers in the hood are different, the older radiator was more vertical. Some bodywork will be in order as per the photos I'm sending to your email address. Wayne

    Trains on TV

Well, I don't have cable except for my modem so I'll be missing this program. (Maybe my daughter can tape it for me?) In the meantime, I found a link to a couple of hard to see photos. http://njscuba.net/sites/list_nj_north_2.html#locomotives Wayne

    New product announcment.... OK?

I do appreciate learning what's available and don't know the best place to post the info, but I do think it's not here in these scale-specific forums. What I liked about this forum, in addition to the courtesy and knowledge of its members, was the lack of commericialism. There is a separate...

    Nut, bolt, washer castings

If no one else has them cheaper, Walthers lists Detail Associates, plastic casting of HO scale 3/4" nuts w/ 2" washers for US $2.00. Just looked for these a few days ago for a switching layout/pier project I'm planning. (Gonna be another long winter.) Wayne

    "Melina's Camp"

Gerd, Couldn't tighten up the diameter of that turntable a little more, could you? Looks like a milimeter or two wasted space there! I think I remember reading the Delaware & Hudson had their Challengers built to specs that were a foot or so too long for their biggest turntables and so had...

    Adirondack sawmill questions

silver, Thanks for more info on the mill and the Benson Mines. I've been starting my research of the Chateaugay Iron mines north of here at Lyon Mountain. That operation shut down in the 1960's. I'm ging to be heading up there this weekend. I've been planning to model mining & furnace...
