    Possible short in loco?

Well you did say that the locomotive derailed on a switch, after you did have it running. That could have caused the program problem at that time. Just guessing- but resetting would clear up any problems, if it is a program issue.

    Possible short in loco?

Do you have a friend that has a system that can read CV's? If so, have him reset the decoder. Like I said before, the short could have caused the decoder to loose its program information. There for it will have to be reprogramed. Not sure this helps, but it might give you some insight as to...

    Possible short in loco?

Can you read the CV's with this system? If so I would reset the decoder to the factory defaults. Check the decoder information- it should tell you how to reset the decoder. The short might have changed the programing and now will not respond to any information the DCC system is sending to it.

    N scale dirt ?

Dirt Biased turkey: The baseball diamond dirt is really clay dirt. I think that I would stay away from tile grout. It is a cement product that will harden like( well like concret). Don't think that is what you want. No indoor garden shops in Canada? Buy a small plant with some dirt, toss the...

    N scale dirt ?

I use the real stuff ( DIRT). I collect the dirt that is at the bottom of small dried up mud puddles. I looks like small curled up flakes, take it home and dry. Put in oven for about 1 hour at 250 degrees. Then brake it up and sift it throught a tea strainer, for smaller dirt I sift through a...

Here we go! Gotta start somewhere.

Hummmm- looking like the rocks that you see at The Grand Canyon. Looking good.:thumb: Look out down stream ! I see flash flood warrnings - better get that construction equipment out of the canyon quick! You will never find it again if the water washes it down stream.

    Challenger Mystery

By looking at the first post, the dealer had test run the locomotive on D.C. to test it- Ran on D.C. or that is what I understand.

If you are updating - plan on using DCC. You can install decoders one at a time as $s permit. Do you most used locos first- Make your layout so it will use DC or DCC. Have one and one only place where you provide power to the layout via DC or DCC. That is if you are using DC, your DCC system can...

    Challenger Mystery

TexDoc. I don't think the problem is in the decoder (Tsunami). Possible that a piece of packing material got into the drive train. I have three Tsunami's in my Kato Mikados, and they run and sound great. I did have a different decoder in my first unit, and I was not happy with the sound-so I...

    Power Supply For Turnout Control

You can build or buy a capacitor discharge unit.:thumb: There was (or is) a book ( Practical eElectronic Projects for Model Railroaders) by Peter J. Thorne-Kalmbach Books. It shows two different units you can build yourself. It has some information about a matrix system too.

    electricaly stupid

This might be true. I looked at pricing on power packs--Cheep? Model power $24.98- Bachmann-$38.50 Protech- $20.00. Might be hard to find a a LHS. And the prices are from last years Walthers. Might be able to find a old train set with the power pack still working. I have an old Bachmann Trim a...

Soundtraxx in Athearn Genesis SD 70M

Well I did find out what voltage the lights are-- 1.5 volts They must be about 15MA because the 1.5 30MA bulbs I used needed differant resistors to keep the volts down. Just a note for someone who runs into the same problem.

    electricaly stupid

Well this may not be just what you are looking for. Try finding a power supply 110 volt AC to 12 volt DC. There are all kinds of them out there. They are used for powering up small toys-calculators- ect. Get one that has a output of about 1/2 to 3/4 amps. Hook it up to your track- see how fast...

    Can i mix track?

You can-- but you must make some type of jointer yourself. Atlas 55 will have a different tie spacing than the Peco also. Peco is really code 80 with only code 55 showing above the ties. So you must make you own jointers. Or figure how to file the two brands to use the jointers of your choice.

    What model decoder

If your don't get a reply from someone who has opened one up to look inside,( that pearson might not know all of the CV's) I would contact Atlas support department. Not sure what system you have, I know that with my Power cab set up I can read the CV's and it will tell you what each CV is when...

Help with MRC Reverse Loop Module

I would have to agree with Balwinjl- We just went through this same thing with TrainNut last week. He found a problem with his Zephyr system. It would shut down the system before the reverse dector would switch over. He had a reverse module that had a trip set point, and even after setting it to...

Soundtraxx in Athearn Genesis SD 70M

Any one know what voltage the lights are in this beast? The original owner tried to install a DSD-AT100LC Sound Decoder in it, and gave up. The front two lights were burned out. I replaced with some 1.5 volt 30 MA. bulbs. used droping resistor 560 ohm. Lights will not light up- :curse...
