Found a few images of the SST dropships here and there, just to add to the flow of ideas...

Wow, Jan. This is going to be very beautiful. Excellent texture work. You really have captured the look well.

    Dropship Series

I like the idea of the large and small dropships from the movie starship troopers, but even better designs were the dropships from the CG kiddies series version of Starship troopers. imo those ones looked way better, even though the series was .... not way better. There are other paper models...

    USS Sulaco / Aliens

Wow! OK, I think we have a winner. You're officially a super-elite club member. That's amazing. The additional details (ram scoops, pitot tube and landing gear) really look incredible. I'm really impressed by your skills, and a little concerned about your mental health ;)

    USS Sulaco / Aliens

Gorgeous, Jan. I haven't been this excited to build a model since....since, well, since just before uhu released his Discovery. These are great times to be a paper modeler. It seems like we have a mini cheyenne club going here. Ya gotta post a photo of your build to become an elite member!

I just keep coming back to look at these amazing photos. I can't believe the amount of work and detail you packed into the cockpit. Really impressive work. I can't wait to see what you do with the rest of it.

    USS Sulaco / Aliens

Modelnutz: No worries man. We all get cranky from time to time. I understand your impatience, too, as this is just such a sweet model. Seriously: AoL? I didn't even know they were still doing business. Goes to show what I know. I just thought they were junk mail spammers from the late 90s and...

    USS Sulaco / Aliens

Modelnutz: Oooo. Sarcasm. That requires a response (sorry I didn't see this sooner or you might've gotten a reply). In general, we aren't supposed to be exchanging models without the designer's permission, even if its a freebie. I can't host it anyway. My suggestion: fire a very nicely worded...

    USS Sulaco / Aliens

I used the normal 110 lb card stock I usually use, but I would recommend something a little thinner now that I've done it. That glossy paper Jan used sure looks good, doesn't it!?

    USS Sulaco / Aliens

OK, that may have been one of the most challenging small projects I've attempted to date. Don't get me wrong: I loved it! It was a fun hour or so. At 89% printer output size the completed 16 part mini-Cheyenne came in at 6 Cm total length. Here are a few shots of my build. Keep working...

    USS Sulaco / Aliens

Printed (89%), and will be building it tonight, as soon as I can find my teensy weensy tweezers.

    Discovery

As far as I can tell, you're supposed to cut out the red areas on the ends of the supply pods/tanks (the thin red strips on the sides and the thicker bit across), then fold the remaining flap out abit. The 9a and 11a parts, that look like open fairings fill in the cut out red bits to make the...

    Discovery

I like the idea of doubling the scale and going for interior lighting. I'm pretty sure I'm going to give my Discovery a nice red-lit bridge interior. One trick I learned from my days of lighting scratchbuilds is to make a small light box with only 1 light in it, with an easy-to-access power...

    Discovery

Agreed. Lets stay focused on the amazing beauty that is the model uhu's crafted. btw...amazing shots Red. Nice build. I had insane fantasies about placing a small led inside the pod, and lighting the control panels etc with fibre optic threads.....clearly an overly ambitious plan given my time...

    Outland Shuttle Build

Thanks Graham and dhanners for the comments. Yes, I see all the flaws, and this model isn't what I'd hoped it would be. But in the end its all good, and I learned a ton doing it, and yes, even had fun. It is a unique subject, and maybe I did bite off abit more than I could chew with this one...

    USS Sulaco / Aliens

It's all just too cool. The discussion on EEVs, the escape scenarios, the MFs escape systems, and the test pages you've shown. I think I may implode. These filmmakers and special effects shops really need to consult us first BEFORE they go making sci fi movies, now, don't they.

    Discovery

This is not a link, but it should help you find his blog main page (hint: use google or cut and paste this after the http stuff): "uhu02.way-nifty.com/blogpapercraft_ver2" The Discovery model is available from the two most recent entries in his blog, seen as about 25 separate pages or links to...

    USS Sulaco / Aliens

Then again if these particular EEVs are made for stasis beds, they would likely be located near the part of the ship where crew-sicles are kept so they could be more easily shunted into the EEVs. The actual mechanism for delivering these chilly tubes to the EEVs should perhaps best be left to...
