Comparing two 1/33 kits of the Polikarpov I-16

Recently there have been two 1/33 scale models of the Polikarpov I-16 coming out. They are the Modele Kartonowe version, which is downloadable for free and also comes in a 1/48 version for those so inclined; and Kartonowy Arsenal 3/2004, one of the most recent Halinski kits. Comparing them...

Thanks, that was informative and helpful. Feel tempted already - another master work of Tadeusz Grzelczak it seems. Imagine that one in a larger scale... Leif

    Wilhelmshaven 1:200 scale USS Constitution

Very nice work on those little details, Jim! (By the way, how do you get all that text into the headlines of the pictures?) Leif

    Wilhelmshaven 1:200 scale USS Constitution

I have to keep telling myself all the time that this is that little puny model of a ship you showed at its real size in one of the previous pictures! - L.

Graf Spee Scharnhorst and other junk food

Barry, re: question about glue for canopy - same goes for me. I used white glue, for lack of better alternatives. Main benefit - it does stick also to transparencies - and it is possible to get surplus glue off with the help of a toothpick. Doesn't harm OH film, if that's what you're using...

Graf Spee Scharnhorst and other junk food

Barry, thanks for recognizing the bit about having to be a contortionist to build airplanes, even in the comparatively large scale of 1/33. Makes me feel less ham-handed! Best of luck with the build - looking good from where I sit - and I certainly aim to follow, some time, somewhere ... Leif

    Wilhelmshaven 1:200 scale USS Constitution

Oooh! - I like this, especially the close-ups of the stern. Magnificient add-ons; I can just imagine how much you've been thinking about this, and how you enjoyed it. Came out very well, didn't it - congrat's! Leif

    Modelik IS-2

That must be a very good tool also for making slots generally in thick material, of a common and recurring width, such as e.g. 2 mm, or 1 mm. It's the short bit that's most difficult to cut. Thank you. Leif

    Digital Navy Fuso

Barry, I've very shyly been watching some of the ship-building threads, and I am beginning to understand the fascination. What an incredible amount of detail there is to go on. I keep trying to imagine this beauty on the settee... Leif

    Quick and simple rivets

Gil, you always manage to come up with the most incredible sort of high-end, low-tech solutions. Can't imagine what an amazing amount tricks you've stored under your hat... Bill, meanwhile I'll remember your most sensible approach. Drawing an angular outline, punching lightly from the...

    Quick and simple rivets

CharlieC and others, I tried mixing acrylic colour (tip from Swinger) and quick-drying white glue (thicker basically). Gives you really nice blobs which stay inflated. Will definitely become a part of my repetoire from now on! (Finally found a use for the quick-dry white glue; haven't used it...

Lightbox for embossing Gil (and others) - for an example of a lightbox, see here and here. I built it for exactly this purpose (drawing rib lines on the back of the paper, etc.) The only drawback I've encountered is that if you use paper of some thickness, and dark colours to boot, you really...

Many thanks, both of you. I have immediately written to my supplier in Germany, who has good Polish connections, asking if he could help out. - Leif
