    Chicken or the egg ?

After you've waited twenty years and finally have the space, the equipment, the time, the money and you're down to the last 10 feet of mainline to lay - do you you ballast now (while it looks like "the plywood/foam central") or wait till you put you basic scenery in (ie mountains, hills etc)...

Doubleheader tour west of Toronto Intrested?

As I remember - the absolute key to enjoying it in one day is to get there early (or at least on time) - quickly scan the list of open layouts, prioritize what you want to specifically check out ie scale size etc, and put them in a good driving order. Skip lunch and eat late. Depending on my...

    I'm a little mixed up

I would lengthen the new yard lead (drill track) by moving the last switch (on top left)on the new design conneting the lead to the mainline - back to it's original position in the first drawing. But leave the new yard lead. That way the switcher can go all the way down the yard lead and still...

    Re-painting rolling stock---???

I'll go with Russ on that one. Most of my cars (from both ends of the cost$ spectrum) get the weathering treatment with black or grey (or whatever colour) chalk or lead and the dull cote treatments. It certainly improves the looks and definately gets rid of the out of the box look.

    Ideal Power Pack Placement

Here's a question for those electrically dominant. The specs : 8 feet wide /24 feet long "U" shaped layout. Where is the best place to locate my 2 control master 20's to acheive balanced power throughout the layout.? They obviously have hand held controls which will be positioned around the...

It's MONDAY 1-24-05, weekend modeling accomplishments!

A family weekend away but still managed to assemble an IM cylindrical hopper, paint another undecorated one. All while watching a movie at the Brother in laws, (the wife wasn't too impressed however). When I got home on Sunday, I built walls for the rear of a building I was intending on using as...
