    Newbee Questions

Hey! I have heard that some modelers will put in the poles, but not the wires. they say that the wire is what turns "newbees" away from traction. If you do operating overhead, use as few switches as possible. these complicate the building process. I am new to traction too. I have done some...

    N Scale Traction Modelers

Bachmann makes an N-scale starter kit with two older coaches, and a combine. it is set #14004. In the 2008 catolog it costs $150.00 It comes with a 4-4-0, 34"x24" loop of track, & throttle Geez I really sound like a sales person.

    Advise?

Yes that was trainfest. Do you exibit there? I have been thinking & thought it could be modular(portable). it would probobly be a few pieces of foam or ply wood that would be set down & connected. It would probobly be made in 3'X3' sections, & 3-5 sections (including a curve perhaps?) . If I...

    N-Scale Traction

I get a lot of big ideas(some are big plans of something small) and this is one of them. I have wanted to make a portable layout (like in a briefcase, or a shoe box) But never have the money for Z-scale. Anyway, I thought of a good way to do it in N. It would go inside an inexpensive briefcase...

I am on a budget, so it would be nice for things on that. I already know about bachmannn & a good place to get good prices on On30 stuff(St. Aubin). Another thing would be just what I need for a layout that includes switching, continous run, small enough to get most of the scenery done in an...

    Here I go

N scale is good for running long trains. It still sounds like you can go for a wider radii. I recomend you do a minimum of 11'R, that way there is a wide veriaty of engines & rollingstock you can still run. I have A loop of Kato Unitrak that is 11"R and all but one of my engines/rollingstock...

    Scratch build

You should put some posters on it, perhaps a small platform. I like it... it just seems like it's walls are too empty. Maybe some grafiti, or some advertisments, a town sign telling passengers what town this is. but this is way better than my first scratch building proect (of coarse my fist was...

    steamer mtc.

That stufff you applied, it sounds like it is making it impossible for the engines to get grip and/or make contact with the power running through the rails. try getting that stuff off. a brite boy is a good idea. Goo gone is good for cleaning the trach, as long as you wipe it off the rails.

    MOW Speeder

It looks really cool!!! It looks like a shortline's shop built engine, like the RR had a run down old building they stuck a moter in.:steamtrain:

Rooming House - First attempt at weathering

I like to use weathering chalks. The kind I use has a built in adhesive that lets it stick to wood, and plastic. Just take a fine paintbrush, dab a little chalk on the end, carfully aply it as you would paint(but without the runs) if you put too much on you can blow some off. A word to wise: Do...

    Tighest radius

I have heard if you are starting in N, try a 2'x4' Layout. That is just wide enough for a complete loop (With 11"R Curves) I can run all of my N scale trains on 11" except for oe engine. So give it a try. Bachmann has some amazing prices on N scale. If yu want N scale steam go Bachmann!

    Z Shay

    Advise?

Advice? I have been a model railroader my whole life. I have built N scale, HO scale, and LEGO, and tried an HOn3 railroad (The HOn3 attempt was badly done. a total failure.) But then a few years ago I discovered On30 at a train show in Millwaukee, WI. I saw a static display I had seen before...
