This forum is not changing in ways you don't like. It has already changed in ways you don't like. It's done, it's over, the ship has sailed.

I am not criticizing Claudio. And I agree with you, I don't see the problem either. But the fact is that this forum has a corporate owner. They have laid down the rules, and they have hired an administrator to enforce them. Claudio's post is a clear violation of the stated rule. Fortunately...

But I'm not really the guy to ask. The guys to ask would be Maico Shark, P3R3, cg admin, or sanjay.

I see your point, but it's not impossible to find member names--it's just tedious to go through the 661,000 posts. The posts don't expire; they're still there, I think. I've seen some all the way back to the year 2000. Given the will, I don't see why anyone couldn't harvest all the member...

It provides the functionality of a members list. You can search out anyone by their user name, find their zealot posts, go to their profile page, PM them, contact them ,friend them, etc. Is there some other capability that a functional members list would provide? It's not as though you can...

Thank you, Claudio, for the lovely model. I must ask the administrator if this is a violation of the forum rules posted in June: http://www.zealot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=166361 since Claudio's page solicits voluntary donations through paypal.

Stand corrected. There's another admin called P3R3, Pere I suppose.

There's really no need for a members list, when we have google. For example, if you google "sillywizard" and "zealot", some of the top hits are for posts I have made here, and I have made very few. Given that, you can link back to the post, click on the name, and voila!. You are ready to send...

I've been traveling a lot lately, and haven't folded a thing lately. I'll be back to it soon.

I think it should be like this, but neater.

Card_noob, this is in reply to your message about parts 9 and 9a. My theory is that you don't cut out the red areas. I think you cut out part 9a and fold it like one square wall and two triangular ends of a pup tent. On parts 9, I think you just cut three sides around the gray rectangle...

    My Discovery (uhu02) build

Good catch. uhu02 did not cut slots in those cones, a false assumption on my part. I don't entirely regret it; those braces are in the slots securely. Edge gluing them in might be a little delicate. If I had to do it again, I might cut a thin slot down the center of each black rectangle...

    My Discovery (uhu02) build

The fit issue is arguable; as I said, the holes in the spine nuts were a little big the way I did it. I'd rather err on the side of dowel diameter too small rather than too large. 8.3x11.7", is of course, A4 paper used everywhere except North America. Here, you need to get acquainted with...

    My Discovery (uhu02) build

So far, so good. More work than I thought. The little assembly of two facing cones, with the cog shape in between, and the three braces between them, makes a strong little unit. If I had used a thicker dowel or thicker paper for the wrap, I wouldn't have been able to slide the finished units...

    My Discovery (uhu02) build

I'm nearly done preparing all the little fiddly bits that go on the spine, and I wanted to make sure the spine nuts were properly aligned and put on. After comparing uhu's build pictures, movie stills, and the parts for the "pods" that attach to the nuts, I've concluded that the hex nuts go...

    My Discovery (uhu02) build

The cones that go on the spine are part #7 on page 3. The first few I made were lumpy and out of round, because they tended to bend where the slots were cut out. It worked better when I pre-curved them by vigorously rolling them on a rubber mouse pad with a 5/32" brass tube. I made a conical...

    My Discovery (uhu02) build

I used google translate to translate uhu's design and build diary. Based on that, I think he used an 8mm dowel. I believe that an 8mm dowel, wrapped with the right thickness of cardstock, would end up close enough to 9 mm in diameter. I printed everything at the original scale. The closest I...
