That image came up smaller than I had hoped. So I've scanned it in halves so you can have a better look at the signs.

Creating Store Signs for the Layout

I took a break from working on the electrical last night to create some signs for my buildings. I looked in several trolley books and especially by By The El: Third Avenue and its El at Mid-Century for examples of signs from the 40s and 50s. By The El is very good because the photos are in color...

    Air Car

That's right. 4000 is the only one of 317 TTC air cars (including the 27 ex-Cincinnati air cars purchased second hand). Pennsylvania Trolley Museum has 1138, 1467 and 1799 (ex-1613) out of 565 Pittsburgh air cars. NCTM has Washington 1101, 1430 and 1540 out of 488 Washington air cars. Of...

I'd have to check the next time I'm in Toronto. I think the overhead is still there.

    Traction link

Cool :) I remember seeing King Street from the condo when the snow was largely undisturbed. Well the location of the overhead frog should guide you. Using a guide sometimes used in trolley modelling, the overhead frog should be 1/3 of the way past the track switch.

    Traction link

Thanks Chris. That was taken from the window of my den in a condo I owned from 2000 to 2004. It was a fun place to live and looking back it seems hard to believe I was there for four years. Time flies!! I love traction, but even on the 11th floor there was alot of noise. You're right close...

    Air Car

There were two types of PCC cars. Generally the cars built before WWII had air operated brakes and doors. Cars built after WWII generally were all electric. All electric cars were developed about 1940 as the PCC was refined, but I think there really was only one or two all electric orders...

Air electric PCCs were built before WWII. PTC 2501-2580 were built in 1942 and some ran until January 1983. http://www.phillytrolley.org/2501-2580.html Below are photos of 2582 on the last day of Route 13 service on Chestnut Street before Route 13 moved into the trolley subway, 2520 at...

    Traction link

Hey Chris, nice photo of King and Church. Here's a couple from a different angle!! Notice the two poles close together? The TTC was in the process of replacing span poles and some of the old poles stand close to the new poles while the TTC waits for Toronto Hydro to move its lines from...

That's Route 11 during the private ownership days in Philadelphia prior to 1968. The location is the 40th Street portal where subway surface lines come to the surface. Route 11 still operates today. Present day photos: http://world.nycsubway.org/us/phila/rt11darby.html...

It's always helps to have photos of the prototype before you build a scene. Here's some photos from the Toronto Archives of the Port Credit radial car line in 1927. Each photo has a description at the bottom of the photo...

    Hamilton Radial Railway

Knowing that some guys like interurbans I thought we should look at a long gone line. The Hamilton Radial Railway was Incorporated in 1893. Eleven miles of line from downtown Hamilton, ON via Burlington Beach to the town of Burlington were completed in 1897 and the line was extended to Port...
