It's funny you mention that. I have already confirmed that I can order the handrail set from Atlas very cheaply. I was actually thinking of ordering all the detail parts for the SD-35 from Atlas and seeing what I could do to my IHC. I also need to replace the cab roof on it since the...

And finally a side by side comparison. In this photo the differences reqally stand out. It appears that the IHC is out of scale compard to the Atlas. The entire locomotive sits too high and also appear "beefier" than the Atls does. Also notice the bell on the Atlas. The IHC has one...

    US rolling stock manufacturer

If you are looking for great detail right out of the box I would suggest Atlas, mind you they are pricey. (read 20+ USD per car) If you dont mind a bit of detailing work to get them up to the "standard" of the Atlas models then go for either the MDC (Blueprint series is great detail but...

Thanks so much for the tips. I got really lucky on this kit, I only piad 6 dollars for it and I REALLY wanted to try my hand at a truely finescale rolling astock model for a change, especially after comparing my new (Used) Atlas Loco to my other locos. Only my IHC steamers come close to...

    RTR Freight Car(s)

I may as well throw my bit in here as well. I have rolling stock that runs the full range from Blue Box all the way up to RTR Atlas and from a standpoint of what runs better I can honestly say that all my rolling stock run about the same. The big thing to me is this. Can I, with my...

    Levels of detail

That is a perfect example of what I was talking about. When I get off work ( I work third shift as a security guard) I will try to remember to take a similar pic of my two SD-35's for a comparison of the detail levels of non modified units. Honestly I actually prefer the Athearn type...

I got extremely lucky today and purchased my very first Atlas locomotive. It is an Atlas Master series SD-35 in CSX Blue and Grey paint without a road number. It was the locomotive that ran on my LHS's layout for the past year or so and she still pulls like a champ. (besides I only paid...

    Flea market fix'r upper...

Thanks guys/ I guess i am a bit of a perfectionist in many ways. Goes back to my college days when I painted wargaming miniatures as a hobby. Talk about tiny details!!! I love working on trains and making them look great. I have finally taken the step up from Athearn quality up to...

    Gauge Railway Railcars / Locos

I am working on my first Gauge car right now. It is a custom B&M Well Hole Flatcar with Load kit by Funaro & Camerlengo. It is a resin kit (MyFirst ever resin kit BTW) And is definitely an unusual beast. It was a car that was custom built by B&M to haul ships drive gears back durning...

Qustion for you Shaygetz. How do you shave off the molded on things that are on the flat sides of the cars like the ladders and grab irons? I have tried but it always looks like somthing was shaved off and not like it was just the side of the car. I am stumped as to how to get...

    Flea market fix'r upper...

I know what you mean Shaygetz. There is something about taking someones unwanted toy and turning it into something that is uniquely yours that just seems to be more satisfying than putting together a shake the bow kit or even getting a Atlas or some other brand RTR car. When your done...

You are most definitely a man after my own heart. I love taking old cars that nobody loves and making them into gems like this. Some of my oldest examples of weathering here on the gauge started out as tyco cars just like this one. I used to have a pair of Blue Anthracite Coal cars by...

    My LHS has been Sold

Well Clinchcross Model Trains in Fletcher,NC has been sold and the current owner's last day will be next Saturday. I went today with my mother to say our goodbyes to the owner as well as see what he had left. I picked up a 4 car set of B&O streamliners and the stores Atlas SD-35 in CSX...

For those interested in sound on the cheap....

They are slightly larger than the standard Digitrax decoders and have what looks to be a 3/4 inch speaker. Unfortunately I dont think they will work for N Scale unless you rig them in a boxcqar or something behind the loco.
