How to make real Chains on your handrails

Next we carefully cut out the plastic chain. Remember, these handrails are extremely delicate.

How to make real Chains on your handrails

First thing we need to do is get those pesky Handrails off of there. You will also notice the soon to be applied real metal chain. (Hint: check out model ship supply places to find this chain.)

How to make real Chains on your handrails

Hello fellow Gaugers!!! I have been on a sort of detail oriented hunt for things to improve on my rolling stock and Locomotives lately as any of you who have seen my recent barrage of pictures have seen. Well I though I would post a how to on how to put real chains on the front and...

switching, signals.. just tossing some things

Do you run DCC? If you do you might look into Digitrax's signalling system that they make. From what I have read up on it it is supposed to work really well. however you do have to do a considerable amount of wiring for all the signals and block detection.

    Digitrax Signalling system

Has anyone here tired out the digitrax signalling system? I have been looking at it as a possible solution for my layout but I would need to completely rewire everything to add occupancy blocks and such. I would like to actually use a "live" signalling system on my dinky little...

    Quick Programming track.

I made up a programming and test track for my DCC setup today. (well actually it is still drying) I used a scrap piece of 2x6 and three pieces of Atlas code 100 flex track as well as AMI instant roadbed to put it together I plan to have one track connected to my programming ports...

    Sudden direction change while running.

I have a Stewart F7 that I have installed an MRC AD370 sound decoder in. It has run great now for over a month when suddenly tonight in the middle of running it suddenly acts like the direction control has been reversed. It was very strange. I was sitting here at my computer letting...

    Weathering cement hoppers.

well I know one way to get the dusty effect quite nicely. Use real cement dust. Take a sandwich bag or some sort or sealable container that the car will fit into easily and that you can easily retrive it from and remove the trucks and couplers from it and toss it in. Then sort of...

    RTR Freight Car(s)

The CSX car is the RTR. If you look closely (sorry for the bad pictures my camera's Marco mode is terrible) you will see that the ladder on the CSX is actually individualy applied steps and that the step for the brake wheel is actually a metal mesh not a molded shelf like on the Conrail...

    RTR Freight Car(s)

Excellent Point Fred. Another good quality high detail kit is the Blueprint Roundhouse kits. The only problem I have found with the more detailed kits like the P2K and Blueprint ones is that some of those parts are so tiny and fragile it seemsimpossible to remove them from the sprues...

    RTR Freight Car(s)

You will notice that the Conrail Boxcar has molded on ladders, the brakeman stepis as well. The CSX boxcar has individually applied ladders, and a Metal mesh step for the brakeman. Now the kicker. Price for the Athearn BB Kit. Approximately 8 dollars. Price for the Athearn...

    RTR Freight Car(s)

Upon first glance these two boxcars have only differences in paint from the two pics I have shown thus far. Not to illistrate the differences in details A simple shot of the ends of both cars up close should do I think.

    RTR Freight Car(s)

Ok , If I may present a little graphic demonstration on the differences of RTR versus kits. Athearn specifically. I have here two Athere Boxcars. One is a kit, and the other is a RTR.
