    Quick Programming track.

I have actually glued somw ties to the ends of the tracks to act as bumpers. ASs for the couple pin gauge, the kadee coupler gauge does both the coupler hieght and the pin hieght in one gauge. I use a ramp style rerailer instead of a rerailer track because I dont like how cheesey the...

    Cleaning old HO Locomotives/Engines

While this topic does come around from time to time I will give ya a had. First thing to do is to carefully disassemble the locomotives amking sure to note where all the parts come from. Then carefully clean out all the gunk and old lube from the gears, also carefully cleaning the...

    RTR Freight Car(s)

Thanks for the heads up on that PS boxcar. If that is a sign of the things to come from Athearn/Horizon then the merger is definitely going to be a good thing for us blue boxers out there. I primarily used those two boxcars because they wee the only two cars of similar type and same...

    Sudden direction change while running.

I think what caused it was me running the train very slowly through these cheap Atlas #4 switches which sometimes will cause a short if the wheels hit just right. Sometimes my loco's will get to the switch points and stall out and the Digitrax box will indicate a short until I move the...

    Digitrax Signalling system

Well I am in no particular hurry with this, I was more interested in opinions of the system and what not. I do want to get something for signalling in the future but for right now I am running without them. With the Digitrax system it would be a while before I could afford all the...

    Sudden direction change while running.

Well I found the problem. Somehow the CV value for CV 29 got set to 49 which is a NDOT of reverse. I have no idea how this happened. Only thing I can figure is some sort of glitch as i set it to a value of 50 now and it works perfectly again.

    Tips-n-Tricks

For Scale Model chains and the like look to Model Ship supplies for sources. I found a 42 Link Per Inch chain that is a perfect match for the safety chain on most Locomotive handrails produced by Model Shipways part number MS0516

    Digitrax Signalling system

I actually searched the Digitrax Yahoo group before posting here. Unfortunately there is little to no useful information on it there and I honestly don't like posting there due to how cluttered the Yahoo groups get. It looks to be a good system, though somewhat expensive. I am...

How to make real Chains on your handrails

Here is a pic of the packaging it came in minus the little ziplock baggie. This stuff is a perect match for the chain molded on most HO scale Locos. I couldn't pass up getting a couple of packs of it for my locomotives, and it gives you something like a foot or more per package...

    Clinchfield Caboose detailing

I figured I would post a pic of the paint pen so everyone can know what to look for. I have seen these in Arts and Crafts stores like Michael's and the like before. It is actually a little bit brighter than the paint on the loco, but if you look at the loco under a magnifying glass you...

How to make real Chains on your handrails

These chains are so small I couldn't find a needle that would fit through the links. They are something like 42 LPI chains or something from a model Ship supply place that my LHS managed to find and started carrying. I bought 2 packs of the chain before they closed down as well as all the...

How to make real Chains on your handrails

And there you have it folks. Two brand spanking new chains for that Atlas loco that are more realistic than the plastic ones it came with. The only things left to do is to paint it to suit your needs and put her back on the rails. I hope you all find this little tutorial useful.

How to make real Chains on your handrails

Finally make sure the silly things fit!! (My first two tries didn't!!) An alternate method of doing this is to put the handrails back on befoe attaching the handrails and gluing them on that way to make sure the chain fits properly as you go. However, shaky hands or too much...

How to make real Chains on your handrails

Trim the chain to fit and carefully glue it onto the other half of the handrail. I suggest having something to allow the handrails to rest on that the glue will not stick to during the curing process for the glue.

How to make real Chains on your handrails

Next of course we need to glue the ends of the chain in place on the Handrails. (here is where you see my TIP in action Folks) Notice how I have the handrail propped on an X-Acto knife blade box to allow it to dry before cutting the chain. (It only took me 5 tries to figure that...

How to make real Chains on your handrails

Well we can't go around having LPB's falling off the locomotive due to the missing safety chain so we better cut some new chaint o replace the old ones. (TIP: I found it is actually easier to NOT cut the chain to fit until you get one end of it glued and in place.)
