Question of the day, 11-14, structures

So far it has been mostly the first 2. I have built 5-6 kits as per the plans. The string of DPM kits on my Downtown Orangeville module were bashed. Oh and the outhouse on the Cabin module was scratchbuilt. As to already assembled, unless you count the structures I recieved from Robin...

Mystery Item -or- I don't know what this is!

That sir is an old fashioned fireplace/wood stove poker. You grasp the rounded handle and use the bend end for moving logs in a fireplace or wood stove. In a wood stove you have to move the wood to keep the fire under the area of the pot you are cooking in.

    Sid Meyer's Railroads!

Well, considering it was Sid who created the original Railroad Tycoon, it should be a good one.

    Plastic/Resin Structures

To my way of thinking, if you want to model a brick building, use styrene/resin kits. If you want to model a wooden building, use wood. That being said, in my own collection, I have 2 wooden structures that are resin kits, I will be replacing them as soon as I find a couple of laser kits...

    Calling All Foam Artists....

I cut the foam with anything that is handy. :D I have several hobby knifes around the layout and use them for small trimming/scoring jobs. I have a large kitchen type butcher knife for the larger jobs. I have used a jig/sabre saw for rough cuts. I poke holes with an awl. Whatever works. sign1

    Credit Valley Railway progress report

Time to rip up and start again.... After two weeks of attempting to install Tortoise machines through foam, I have gone out and picked up two sheets of 1/2" plywood. I am going to take up the track and lay it on the plywood, mount the 14 Tortoises and then cookie cutter it out. I will use the...

Is the model railroad industry struggling?

I find that clubs are only as strong as their members. The usual trend is for 20-25% of the members to be doing 80-90% of the work while the rest just go to watch and talk. Of course a strong leadership can delegate chores to members and get every one involved.

    New Diorama for the CVR.

Thanks Val, it is still a work in progress. I want to continue the split rail fence and also the stone fence. Also trim the rails so they look less like railroad ties. :D Also fix up the trail that goes behind the stone fence and out the back of the diorama. Cecilia says I am too...

    New Diorama for the CVR.

Things on the hill are doing well, the cows are grazing, the horses are too. Ma is waiting for Pa, there is a cord of wood laid in for winter and a new door on the privy. And yes, that is one of Robin's structures. :thumb:
