I needed to make this thread since I'm not on much and decided I should be, and interact more when I can. A lot of great threads are here with everything showing their joy in this hobby and their nice layouts.
So I went out and bought one of my favorite trains yesterday, a Bachmann Dash 8-40CW...
That's what it was. The front traction axle wasn't secure into the one housing, I pushed it back in and it runs great . Someones loss was my gain :thumb:
Just another thing to think about when we buy from china.
I did peep in there and surprisingly there isn't much room in there, the proto is mostly a metal weight to begin with. Before I opened it up I wanted to put in a basic weight but there's no room like an 90's athearn would have.
I just picked up this CSX blue/grey Proto 2000 SD45, fairly new, the last owner mustn't have ran it. All the stuff is in there, no imperfections at all everything was in the box. Got it for $30. I put it on my straight test track and my small 4X4 and it cant get traction. If i push on the...

Coal and Container cars have always been big around here, but for decades the boxcar has been obsolete and are just drug around as dead weight
The trucking industry is huge here and killed the boxcar long ago
Their might be a reason for so many spiders around, you did say 'ten thousand webs" I would look further into this and have a pest control guy come by and see if you have an infestation that is gathering all these spiders
Thanks Larry, It is good to have her want to look with me and have her pick out kits :D
Good deal, around here that kits was $12, and it was the cheapest PRR caboose out of them all for some reason, they range from $12 to $24.
The Mrs also picked up one of the PRR Boxcars from Bowser so more...
First time ever, and the first time into anything model railroading. She sure picked a good starter kit sign1 and now she's hooked, had a blast building it and now sees why I like it so much :thumb:
Only bad thing I can say about the kit was the window mold had a bubble in it and some...
Thanks for all the replies guys, I've been busy so it's hard to get back here
For now I've just been collecting up rolling stock since they're easier to modify with just changing the couplings and metal wheels
I did pick up 1 DCC engine, a Bethlehem Steel Switcher, which I'll experiment with...
Thanks for some quick answers
I guess my route for sound would be harder since I have 9 loco's that are standard DC and would like the still use them. I think I've seen just sound with a speaker for diesels I can hook up to, like this Walthers Model Railroad Mall -- product information page for...
Last time I was in this hobby was over 10 years ago, I started back up and am wondering 2 things:
1. Can I run Sound on a DC engine? If so, what would I need?
2. Is there any downside in running two engine back to back pulling the same load? Only thing I can think of is drawing double the...
Just because they are made cheap doesn't mean they are shipped cheap. That is a key most often looked about production, have to factor in the shipping cost
This is going to be more of a spotting for models since there are deals out there and other people should know about them :thumb:
K-Mart has Norscot Construction vehicles in case for $2.19, and Caterpillar 1:87 models a few bucks cheaper
