Please help a new guy decide scale

if you have space restraints, go ahead and go N-Scale, I'm actually making the conversion from HO to N after realizing what i wanted to do would take up more room than i had in HO scale. As for the eyes ststement, I know several 70+ people still running N Scale and even one running Z scale, the...

    Hang It

Don, if you're concerned with dust, this is great, you build a box that is installed at the top. when the layout is up, it's encased, thus no dust. But i agree, some fold down table legs ro such should be used to keep it from swaying when down. of Course you could build something similar to...

    MDC Roundhouse

The shay's are noisy, this is due to the moving parts on the outside, not the gears. and no the outside assembly is not part of the drive train, they have driveshafts underneath to the trucks. Now a question, did you get the 2 truck or 3 truck version?

covered bridges - what era ?

Jetrock, Covered bridges weren't native just to the northwest, infact There were several Covered bridges in the mountains. Several Lines thought that covering the Short spans in the mountains would keep the tracks snow free in those areas where slides were prevaliant. I believe covered bridges...

    Choosing a DCC set

I was stuck between the NCE and Lenz myself, and it did come down to the throttles, and the NCE throttles was what i liked better out of the two, otherwise the two systems are functionally identical (read not compatable, but very similar in how it works). The other deciding factor what that NCE...

I think Rube Goldberg designed this bridge

Looks like the norh section goes over an access road, the center section over a river or flood channel, the south section goes over nothing important, but they made it look like the nort section (probably cheaper, less steel). ass for the 2 trestle sections, I suspect, as pointed above, that...

    Thinking about DCC

depends on how you want it to work. you can get an el-cheapo entry level, bare bone basic set for $75-150, or you can get a well rounded, good for years system for $250-500 or you could shoot for the moon and get Zimo for around $1000-1200. Check out Tony's sight for comparrisons...

    A real nice tressal bridge

More like a bay bridge, eastern span type, looking at a corner of my area, and thinking of capalizing it as a brideg over water area, instead of detailing it. This in effect gives me the ability to place a 4' long bridge across the gap. Something similar to this: Just the canilevered section...

    Trestles. How high?

well, I'm planning a Cantilevered girder bridge instead, and I'm planning 10" from bottom of the deck to the top of the water (crossing a river). which in N sclae is about 130 ft of clearance for boats. Really depends on where and what the bridge is crossing as to how high or how low you wish...

    A real nice tressal bridge
