    BAchmann Railtruck

This is true, we certainly did. And they seem to be popular modelling subjects among some British narrow gauge modellers (who in general seem to think that narrow gauge railways only exist in Wales!). But nowhere near as much so as in the US. I just don't get why, they always looked really...

    on30 outside frame chassis?

Sorry, didn't mean to sound like I doubted you - you should've mentioned that you owned some! I simply got confused because I always knew that bachmann were producing an outside framed 2-8-0 of some description, but when I tried to find them I could only find the very large scale one - in fact I...

    on30 outside frame chassis?

I was under the impression that the only outside frame 2-8-0 that they made was a 1:20.3 scale model, not an On30 model, and that they simply got them mixed up somehow - maybe my sources are wrong on that. I'll take another look down this avenue and see what I find. It wouldn't be unlike...

    New On30 layout. Ideas please...

Well, presuming you're wanting to model a logging operation, I suppose you'll need some kind of sawing shed, a store building, some kind of tool shop, and somewhere for the sawmill employees to "take a break". Depending on your era you might also want a boiler.

    New On30 layout. Ideas please...

Why not scratchbuild? Order some plastic stock from the Antics website (IE corrugated, strip, sheet, dowel, tube, halfround, etc.) and then start doing drawings of the kind of thing you want. Pick the features you like, bin the features you don't. Then once you've got a finalised design, get...

    BAchmann Railtruck

I'll never get what it is with American railroaders and their facination with these things. They look weird to me. :P That is indeed a nice model though. I think the "toy like" appearance is probably due to the really inaccurate colour of the wood. I'm sure given a repaint of the wood and some...

    on30 outside frame chassis?

Manufacturer??? I'd love to if you just tell me who makes it! I assume you're referring to MDC? If so, please make sure it's On30! HOn3 is something totally different to On30!

    on30 outside frame chassis?

I'm assuming that would require regaging, unless you're talking about just using the frames. HOn3 (representing 3 foot in HO) and On30 (representing 2 foot 5 inch gauge in O) have about 7 or so mm between them.

    on30 outside frame chassis?

I'm now contemplating a gauge change to On30 (which I've always thought looked like good fun) after having zero success with my 009 (4mm to the foot, 2foot 3 inch gauge) layout planning. This depends on the availability of outside frame chassis, which I plan to use with the vast majority of my...

By the way, I looked it up and the Cold Storage company that owned the SW-1 (actually owned a pair of them in slightly different colorschemes) was Mount Airy Cold Storage. Grain is a good one, I wish I had thought of that. Definately a favourite among railroaders of all gauges, although I tend...

    Outside Frame Chassis?

I am in general having very little luck modelling 009, so I'm considering changing to On30, which appears to cater to my needs a lot more. I guess you're right in that standard gauge isn't really the kind of place for outside frame, since the technology itself is really best used on narrow...

    Outside Frame Chassis?

No outside frame loco in particular, it's a "freelance" scratch building project. I'll probably base it around a collection of features from various locomotives that I find visually appealing. For instance I like saddle tanks, coal bunkers that sit in front of the cab, and big lamps. (the...

    Need Model Railroad Industry list

Hey, it may not smell nice but at least it would be original. :thumb: As for the "cold storage" thing, I remember downloading a photograph of an SW-1 owned by a company which had Cold Storage in the name (can't remember exactly, but the initials on the locomotive were MACS, and I'm pretty...

Ahh I see... Sorry, yes of course. *smacks head* On the other point you brought up, I've heard about some steam engines being run on lard, and various other "exotic" fuels like sugar and mollasses. It seems that some of these engines will run on anything that burns hot enough to generate high...

Hang on a second... My initial reaction to "Bio fuels"... is to wonder if you mean, LPG, fuel oil, diesel, etc? Since hydrocarbons are biological chemicals they would technically count as "bio-fuels". I'd assume something but I actually have no idea what "bio fuels" are, so I guess you'll...

Quite a lot of mining goes on in Texas. Mining gets you the biggest salary in Texas, 40k a year on average at present. Dunno if all of these were mined in the 1960s (I presume they were), but here's a list of minerals mined in Texas: Uranium (an interesting one). Lignite (brown coal). Clay...

    Outside Frame Chassis?

I'm not an N gauge modeller, I'm an 009 gauge modeller (british narrow gauge), but since the locomotives use N gauge chassis, and since all I'm after is the chassis, I figured I'd put my question in here. I need an outside-framed chassis (flycranks and all), so my question is, are there any...
