Perils and pitfalls... yeah, I'm a newbie.

This is now a really neat layout. Good work. Think about the possibility of access holes in the corners if you cannot walk all the way around the layout. As everybody can tell on this forum, trains only derail where they are hard to get to.

I don't think that is enough but you can go up to 2% and even move the bridge a little bit to the left to get even more clearance. You will lose some clearance because of the thickness of the bridge.

You are on the right track. Did you calculate the % of the grade around the Roundhouse?

LeeC As a European as well who had layouts than went in circle for years, I now enjoy point to point operation with less track an just one train going slowly around curves while another one has to wait at a siding. It is funny, when I talked to seasoned modeler twenty years ago, he told me the...

I believe you will get bored with your alyout pretty fast. Right now you have 4 ovals with no challenging parts. You could actually run four trains at the same time and leave the room for the rest of your life. You got enough space to do something really exciting if you start thing 3...

    ID help needed

If it is a European locomotive I would agree with above answers but since it is an American locomotive the sticker says: "THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS A CHEMICAL KNOWN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO CAUSE CANCER"

Marcin Great interior although there is something missing. How about posters on the wall and junk on the floor in the kids room.

    Working around cabinet doors

Maybe you should work out the problem from the other side of the problem. Since I don't know what kind of cabinets you have, this idea might be completely absurd. How about building sliding doors on your cabinets or those old type roll-down doors?

    Input on my layout

Question for the line that suddenly stops above the reverse loop: Does it go anywhere or does it derminate? How about connecting that line with track of the loop and while eliminating the loop while keeping the yard?

    repainting

Atlas, Athearn and Lifelike = 95% alcohol overnight Kato = I don't bother since I heard alcohol has a bad effect on the plastic they use

Info on "Der Adler" minitrix trainset

Minitrix produced a set in HO and in N. I got the one in N. It has the motor in the first car behind the engine.

    Swiss Krokodyl

I went through all my books with SBB locomotives and I did not find any pictures with a Krokodil with both pantographs engaged even the winter pictures. It also seems that that before the 60s the front pantograph was mostly used while more modern Swiss engines after that had the back one engaged...

    remote switch power issue

Use the AC from the power pack to power switch motors, signals, scenery light, etc. If your layout grows, you will find out that you have to add some cheap AC power packs just for the switches and lights. If you don't have an AC hookup on your power pack, get something cheap that matches the...

    How to airbrush brass?

Blake Thanks for your help. I have three questions. You said that you use a 50-50 mix of Microscale Gloss and Paint. Is the reason to do that, so you don't have to spray a coat or two of gloss after the paint is try to seal it for decaling? I assume you are thinning the 50-50 gloss/paint with...

    How to airbrush brass?

I soon will receive an undecorated Key brass SP cab forward steamer and like to know if anybody has some advice how to airbrush a brass model. I would like to use waterbased colors like Polly S since I have a lot of experience with that paint on plastic models but I never used solventbased paint...

    Fill this space...

I agree with "Sir Prize". How about those Sears homes. Would be a nice scratch building projects since most of the plans for those houses are still available. http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Trails/9401/sears.html
