    What would you do????

Jeff I like the "loop" and the switching possibilities. I believe it could be fun just to watch a train doing an entire run and with a nice hidden yard you lost entirly the "O" track layout feeling.

    Am I on to something?

Although you have a lot of room, all the tracks seems pretty short. Maybe I don't have the right scale. How long is the shortes and the longest track of the yellow yard?

Seeking N Scale Undecorated Kato f40ph's

Kato shows undec shells in stock. You could get a shell from Kato and a decorated engine from e-bay, swap the shell and sell the Amtrak F40ph shell on e-bay again. I usually could sell them almost for the price of the shell I payed Kato.

    Custom decal glitch

Since I have an Alps I have not tried it yet but Epson claims that their color is waterproofed and fade resistant. The new photo printers are really nice.

    What would you do????

Jeff I think you are on track to a great layout. Right now you don't have a yard or service faciltiy for your engines. I don't know how many engines you own and if you got the right loco/car ratio (I don't) but if got a lot of nice engines, you might think about a service facility. A yard...

    What would you do????

Jeff please to get this the wrong way but I assume to posted your layout to get some imput. If I would have so much real estate I would design something else than a fancy "O" layout. Even if you like to just watch the trains go round and round i would make the second double track not...

    N scale Peco switch frustrations...

Peco like other European track manufactures use 33,3 mm spacing between two tracks as started by Arnold. I assume you use track spacing recommended by NMRA which did not adapt Arnold's spacing. I have all peco with 33.3 mm spacing and I am happy.

    Sid Meyer's Railroads!

I just downloaded the demo. I believe I could play the game for about 6 - 10 hours. Of course that is about 300 hours short of the playing time of the first Railroad Tycoon. Except for the neat graphics, there is just nothing new that could capture my interest. Sorry.

    Opinions on Trix

As far as I know, Minitrix still is produced in Germany. It is not outsourced to a second and third world country like the US models. But I could be wrong since I have not checked their website lately.

    cork and controller question

I nail down my track and leave the nails even after I will add the roadbed. This means I cannot use foam since it is too soft to nail down the tracks. So I assume it also depends on how you will do the tracks.

    GP30 by Atlas?

I got an undecorated GP30 shell from Atlas, cut off the back of the shell and used it as the nose. I had to cut the fan housing and use some filler but for my purposes it was enough. And for $2.40 it is an unbeatable price.

    life like e6

Since it is the only E6 we got right now, and if you get a good deal on the engine or set on e-bay, this is nice model. I got an undecorated set for around $40 and painted it in City of San Francisco colors and I am very happy with the quality of the shell. I have not changed it to DCC and...

When is N gauge not N gauge?

European stations sometimes have oversized doors and windows. Where I grew up, the the main doors (before the switched to automatic doors) where over 9 feet tall with the handle about chest hight. I remember as kids we could not even reach them.

Suggestions on my track plan welcome

I think the lower yard ( logging yard) needs more work. You might think about using only one access line to the yard with left and right switches instead of 4 with only right switches. It should give you also more yard space. I like the layout since you can access all the lines no matter in...

    how to do a background

I have not started my background yet but I did the first step last year. I took a watercolor painting class at my local high school and the teacher showed me all the little details that make a background believable. Also I watched some PBS shows on landscape painting (not the guy who needs...

Feedback for New Layout -CN & CBCNS

Andrew I would change the A yard a little bit. Use left and right switches and you get more track out of it. ..........______________ ......../______________ ___/______________ ........\__________ .......... \_________ (Disregard the little dots. I could not make it work without them)...

Don't laugh too hard...It's my first attempt!

Maybe it is just me but I would get rid of the loop, I mean the switches that make the loop. You only can use the loop from one side and after you used it, the train cannot go back to the original direction of travel since there is no loop in the opposite direction.

    MRR Layout Database

Shaun I don't want to spoil your great web site but did you ask MR if you can publish their work? I know for engine drawings that they let you make copies for your personal use but you are not allowed to re-publish them or give copies to somebody else. If you want to put a lot of work into...

Don't laugh too hard...It's my first attempt!

About the grade: You should have no problem if you drop the outside track right after the switch a little bit. The track to the industry C and D would not have to climb that much to clear the track going over the bridge. The lower track could climb after the undercross a little bit around the...

Designing A Layout Based On A Single Industry

Maybe this is the same layout you are talking about, but somebody built a huge metal foundry layout. It was really impressive and seemed to have more action than a regular layout with multiple industries. Another layout I saw once was just a harbor scene with containers and other freight like...
