Why is basic earth color "tan" ?

Spillage is critical ON the layout? :pHmm...never thought of it that way, but I have always been a kinda sloppy scenery guy. Finicky with the finished result, but sorta all-over at the plaster/rocks stage. I guess I just figured it would be ground-covered over and the track was protected by tape...

What's the interesting dual-handled valve on 1533's smokebox side? (with the sharp red grips?)

    My first catalog house

Great work Kurt! I made my own windows...once. I actually used stripwood from a Campbell N Scale trestle kit. (probably not the cheapest source of stripwood, but it was handy and I had long abandoned N by that time...) There were only 4 windows to build and they are rudimentary at best...

    Photo FUN week of 8/31

DSL - woohoo! I finally got the DSL set up...well, actually, it was all ready to go last night. It was all the IE upgrades, restarts, more upgrades, more restarts, etc. that took the bulk of today. Now Photo Fun can be fun at home too! No more Photo Phrustrating! SO to celebrate, and try...

Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

Very 'clean' edges, and astounding work knowing that's N scale. I may just have to build one in N someday, just to say that I did it. But for now I'm happy with my HO version! Thanks for sharing, Jacques!

Don't laugh too hard...It's my first attempt!

Steve - great work all round! You could try this: Put a drop of steel gray, black and mebbe silver on a plate and dip the brush in all three. Then use that to 'rim' your windows for an effect with a little variation in it. Gus - outstanding tip on the steel wool. I've used the dull cote...

    SS Ltd Timber Gantry

Now that's a good idea, Mountain Man! I've been using a pane of glass as a super-flat and smooth surface when I've needed one, but I suppose if the melamine were adhered absolutely level then it could serve the same purpose. Also I've been using a worn cutting board inherited from my wife...

    SS Ltd Timber Gantry

Bob - thanks for your comments! I did indeed track down the thread with the 'Equity Junction' pics - nice work! I'm not sure how I'll use the gantry on a layout...probably just as a team track structure. But I have contemplated other settings, like a stone quarry, transferring blocks from...

    My first catalog house

The black porch planks! A nice 'period' touch. Was this per the original catalog home, or personal choice?
