    DC or DCC??

Since he was the one that bumped the thread, I'd assume so :D BTW, I never posted why I chose DCC. One of the main reasons was to have sound, since my layout will be mostly a single operator affair. I guess I chose DCC too because I thought the experience with it might give me more options in...

    chains on trucks?

When I first saw the thread I imagined somebody making traction chains on tires on a Z scale wheel for semis heading through the mountain passes :D

    Todays Progress on the ACTRR

All the roofs (rooves?) look good, but especially the torch down. I can actually hear one of the wives saying "If we have to live in a trailer, at least I can have purple trim."

Where to buy homasote in Toronto?

For what it's worth, Dow Utility Fit Styrofoam Insulation is the brand name I was able to find. It's the blue stuff and came in 4'x8' sheets. I know they had 1" 2" and 3" thicknesses and I think they had a 1/2" too.

Love the foundation cracks there. It looks like real work is done on your line.

    Off Topic - Batteries/rant.....

Squidbait, you're right, probably only used full battery on it 40 or so times, maybe half that number of times again for short battery time (30 min in a coffee shop, etc). The laptop itself is, of course, always trickle charging it, probably even when the power light color indicator and windows...

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part V

I have an Aunt who used to send me one of those almost every week. I started sending back Snopes links. She still sends them out every month or so, but still thinks backward pin numbers, flashing headlights, forward a mail to fulfill a Make A Wish, et cetera are all valuable news items. I...

    Off Topic - Batteries/rant.....

Yeah, the battery racket is absolutely nuts. I'm on a Gateway laptop now that's barely 18 months old. I got used to it not charging back to 100% (a few months ago it would stop in the 80s and repeated nudges of unplug and replug would get it back to 99%). It spends 95% of its life plugged in...

    I Was Just Wondering....

I have to admit, I've never been to a club or seen a large group remain so encouraging and civil on the whole. It's pretty stunning for the Internet especially.

Any Successful MRC 1636 Installs Out There

Update: the smoke is not out of them, but there's one broken speaker wire and on the other decoder one lead now disconnected from the board, and it's a ___ to resolder. I was able to get it to move both ways, it seems the two little contacts with the bottom of the board are extremely picky. If...

Any Successful MRC 1636 Installs Out There

Yeah, that was my first thought, and hence some of the disassembly and reassembly. The motor makes contact to the little board with two little strips, and I thought they might be shorting, or that the strips to contact the trucks were off. What's a bit more disturbing is how incredibly fragile...

I'm not sure generic criticism is quite the same as condemning an individual ;) Of course, the whole thread may show otherwise.

    DPM vs. Walthers Modulars

I don't think any of the N scale DPM kits have separately cast windows, right? I know most are responding about HO kits, but the OP asked about N.

Any Successful MRC 1636 Installs Out There

Well, I wanted sound. I got a Prodigy Express on eBay. I got an Atlas U25B and successfully sent off a frame to Aztec, and almost by teleportation got the exchanged milled frame right back. I was thrilled, the speaker fit the milling perfectly. I slid the decoder in. I ran the speaker wires...

Building Beeg Boy.... (LOTS of pictures)

That's some stunning work. She reminds me a lot of the 2-10-2's from the T&P that I really love. I know one of my great-grandfather's was an engineer and another a fireman for them. They were gone when I came along, so I'm not certain they drove them, but thinking they might have is probably...

    model building help

You can actually get good full respirator masks cheap on eBay. I think I paid about $20. You look like a goon from WWI, but they block just about everything. I actually wear it even when spraying water based too. I don't have a spray booth, but I put an second exhaust fan in the downstairs...
