We have a winner in the railfan contest

Congrats. Those were the three I voted for, but all of the entries were really cool.

Mow contest ??? when does it start???

80 year old: I used to get up every morning at 6am and poop like clockwork. Things just don't stay the same as you get older. 90 year old: You call that a problem? I used to at least be able to pee in the morning. I really miss that. 100 year old: Quit your whining young fellas. I'm older...

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part V

It might be that you have to use IE. I notice in FireFox that the submit button (with a dropdown of choices in front of it) does not show up in FF, but it does show up in IE. Why? I have no clue.

    The park project

Nice angle. I like the SF logo as a bullseye for the batter too.

    The"P" in LC&P....

Nice from all angles. I love the tender light too.

My idea for switches - comments?

There is a company that makes little Archimedean ground throws as brass kits for N scale. I'm not sure I'd be up to assembling one of these for every switch...

    Photo Fun 6-13-08

MadHatter, don't give up. There are some data recovery places like HardDrives Northwest that can work miracles for a fee in terms of getting thing back off of a dead disk. Depending on your pockets and the desire it can be worth it. Save the disk for sure in case you decide to try one of the...

    New Desktop Layout

Nice, much more ambitious than the first one. I'm looking forward to seeing more. Thanks for sharing!

    Reminiscing-First Train Set

I'm not sure what counts as first. I remember a blue and yellow HO Tyco Santa Fe set up to do a circle around the Christmas tree when I was maybe 4 or 5, but I didn't get that one as mine, though it was mainly set up for me as the only grand-kid at the time. A few years later I got a Lionel...

    My Little Dude

That's some fine scratchbuilding. I'm sure over the next few years you'll need to expand his layout room as he moves closer to 1:1 scale. Seriously though, cute little dude, and I'm sure a proud continuer of the family line :)

    Golden Valley module

I'd be happy if I could weather so well, especially if I was just starting out doing it.

Who could have guessed this would happen?!?!?!?

We did have city trolleys that got run out, and there are places where bullet trains would make sense now, but it's really hard to fight the airline lobbies. I don't think of it as evil conspiracy, but just common sense for those interests to defend what they already control. In the late...

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part V

I'll try that one on the neighbors. We closed on our house at the end of October, and I made the mistake of saying I loved the snow having grown up without it in the South. I may have said, "I hope there's a lot this year." By April I was getting dirty looks :D

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part V

Congrats on the new hatter. 3" of snow this afternoon, rain washed it away. Broken branches all over, but note for us. Maybe in part because I raked the snow off the sagging branches on our maple. Snow shouldn't come after leaves...

    N Scale MDC/Roundhouse 2-8-0

Ok, impatience pays off on occasion. Twisting was the method, and even though it makes the box bulge a bit, it seems to be just what the doctor ordered. For anyone considering picking one up, I'm very pleasantly surprised so far. The little guy had no trouble pulling 14 cars around the oval...

    N Scale MDC/Roundhouse 2-8-0

First part answered. The drive shaft between the motor in the tender and the loco wasn't firmly seated, it must have come out in handling. I'm still unsure of how to go after replacing the coupler on the pilot without being a moron.

    N Scale MDC/Roundhouse 2-8-0

I just got a nifty MDC/Roundhouse 2-8-0 Consolidation, and was pleasantly surprised at how well it ran slow and fast around my test oval. After a few laps in each direction I decided to work on replacing the Rapido couplers with the included. The rear one was easy to exchange, but I'm not sure...

    the "art" of modeling "sound"

To me, even if the sound is not ideal it's a good thing if it's loud enough to cover the motor noise in a little N scale engine. I think super-advanced/realistic for N will be a longer wait/harder work than in larger scales.

    On Track, with Deano

One of these days I'm going to make it up to see the Western Rails one in the flesh. The Mrs. is usually along on every trip up to Spokane, though, and driving around to take pictures of trains isn't her idea of fun :p At least she doesn't begrudge a stop at the train shop.
