Theres also a really obscure TV movie from the 80's with Mickey Rooney called Treasure Train. In it, they restore and old steam engine.

    Amtrak Southwest Chief

I live in Flagstaff, there are still often 4 boxcars on the back of the Southwest Chief. Its a really nice train, I've rode it on two occasions.

    trains in movies

I'm pretty sure Sierra RR #3 has been in more films than any other locomotive in history. Everything from the Marx brothers' Go West to High Noon to Back to the Future 3.

    Feb 22 Weekly Photo Fun

You know, I love scale modeling and realistic model railroads, but there is something awesome about classic Standard Gauge Lionel, American Flyer, and Ives. Such a production quality, can you imagine what our HO and N stuff will look like 80 years from now? No way it'll still run like old...

Railroad Terms Used in Common Speech

Steam locos compatible with 18" radius track

I have a Mikado that runs on my 15", 18", and 22" curves very well. Also, I have an older Bachmann 4-8-4 that runs on them well, but it looks a bit funny. 4-6-2's and other 6 drivered engines will be best for 18" radius turns

    Proto 0-8-0 Price!

I've seen the C&O 0-8-0 on sale for about $150 at Trainworld and other places which is pretty good. They are also on ebay occasionally. Its a very high quality model.

    BLI Steam Engine short problem.

I had a similar problem with my first BLI engine. Except it was definitely a problem in the tender, one of the wheelsets was installed backwards and constantly caused a short. You may want to make sure the locos pilot wheels or trailing truck arent flipped.

What do we hope to see in 2008???

How about custom made locomotive models? Provide the scale blueprints, and they'll provide you with a perfect replica in either plastic or brass. Price varies based on size, material, and manufacture time. NOW THAT WOULD BE COOL! :)

The 614 is an amazing engine. :thumb: I wish someone made a nice plastic model of it in HO scale. One of my favorite 4-8-4 designs.

    Another Steam Locomotive Hunt

There's a definite lack of 4-6-2's, 4-4-2's, and 2-6-0's on the market. Atlantic's especially, and they're such graceful looking engines.

    Steam Engine Rosters

Those BLI Mikes are really nice engines. I love mine, need to weather it still though. It'll have to wait till Spring. Too many projects at the moment.

    Steam Engine Rosters

BLI's NYC Hudson from a few years ago was very nice looking. I believe they are re-releasing an improved version soon.

    Steam Engine Rosters

The MTH smoke sounds cool, but it isn't that horrible old liquid stuff that leaves a film of grease on the top of the boiler, is it?

    Steam Engine Rosters

I'm not a fan of the orange either. But as far as the 4-8-4's go, having the large number plate in the center of the smokebox door looked really neat.

    Steam Engine Rosters

I definitely agree they are better known for their freight power, but the J-3a Greenbriers, L-2 Hudsons, J-2 Mountain, and even the A-12 Atlantics are gorgeous designs. The low set headlights gave them such a unique look. The Greenbriers especially were really graceful looking compared to some...
