    Rolling stock kits.

The old athearn blue box kits were awesome, so easy to build, smooth rolling, and with a little extra detail you could make them very nice looking. R-T-R cars will be the death of modeling. lol

    An Age-Old Railroaders Problem

'I usually reply, "Just one train set."' sign1 I gotta remember that one.

Do you model less in the summer?

Living in the Phoenix area in the 120 degree summertimes, there is little to do in my free time but go for a swim or work on the layout. :)

    Garage Layout

Cattle pens look good. I think I used to have one of those cattle trucks. The side-loading one is by Matchbox, isn't it?

    An Age-Old Railroaders Problem

Anyone else out there have a 2:1 rolling stock to locomotive ratio? I seriously have upwards of 30 locomotives and only about 65-70 freight and passenger cars. sign1 Its a sickness, really. You see an engine you really want and without really giving regard to whether or not it fits, you...

Outside of brass, who makes best Steam engines?

My BLI Mikado is a nice running engine, though it came with its tender pickups installed wrong. Once I flipped them around it ran great. I have a Bachmann Plus GS-4 Northern, which is a great runner, but the tender was way too light, so I added some weight. I've been looking at a BLI T1 for...

Knuckle couplers are driving me crazy

I would test your coupler heights on a level section of track. If any are off height, a grade will make it very apparent, but if they are all at the same height on level track, then its definitely not a coupler issue. Good luck!

    Getting back into the hobby!

Check out local swapmeets in your area for good deals on flextrack if you need more. Flextrack lasts forever and can easily be reused if it was removed gently. Older Athearn engines are amazing, its a shame they aren't made the same way anymore, hang onto them! Welcome back to the hobby...

    Proto 2000 series

I love my Proto SW9, it'll pull about 15 cars on a level track. About all you can ask from a switcher.

    Steam train 136mph!?

Some of these may not have documented proof, but they have more than one eye witness. Also, there are instances where a train traveled between two places with such speed that it MUST have been going over 126mph. The Mallard was just the only steam loco to do it in an official capacity.

    Steam train 136mph!?

I read a story about Pennsy T-1 engineers pushing their locomotives to 140 in the back country of Pennsylvania late at night when they were running late headed to Philly.

    Just A Little Story

Thanks for all your comments. It makes me feel better to hear this isn't an uncommon thing. I've moved on, I'm gonna start a new layout of my own once I have the room. Right now I'm slowly building up an engine roster to keep my interest until such time I can really put them to use. There are...

    Just A Little Story

Its actually close to 3000 square feet. 30x100. Yes, they had enough room in there for anything but an airplane hangar. But bad layout designs put an end to that. Oh well.

    Just A Little Story

Let me share with you all a little story about something that was once very near and dear to my heart. I belonged to a model railroading club in the Phoenix, AZ area, I won't mention which one. I was a member there for over 10 years. Our membership was rather large, but our active membership...
