Does anyone have a Bachmann Spectrum 4-4-0?

Galen... My new Richmond arrived, and it's a smooth runner. Due to me building a all new layout (around-the-room type), I haven't been able to evaluate it's pulling capability, or grade climbing yet... but I'll keep her no matter what! Both the 4-6-0 and the 4-4-0 are a perfect fit on my...

    Bashed Atlas Turntable Project.....

Good call, Bernard ! I have wondered about the size on those 8 large NBW's ever since I used them on this model.... but I originally tried using the small NBW's that you also see in the photo, and it looked like the ones used for the cable needed to be larger. I think I'll look for someting...

    HO Radius

John, I have a Bachmann Spectrum 4-6-0 that takes 15" rad. curves (every now and then she'll gripe about it)... I will only use 15" on my ore mine siding, however. Bob

    Bashed Atlas Turntable Project.....

Well, the shed is just about finished... I'll head for the train store tomorrow and pick up a chimney to "cap off" the roof, then I'll scratchbuild a coal bin on the side of the shed, do some weathering on the shed itself, stone walls, and the Law's gallows.... and that should do it until I get...

    Bashed Atlas Turntable Project.....

Thanks, Tom... the stripwood used was .0208" X .125" X 11" sections (Basswood); and the wire that I used for the cable was some scrap steel wire left over from another project (I really don't have the wire dia. info, but the diameter is about half the thickness of the shaft of a straight pin)...

Building an empty stock car train

Very nice, Jon. I felt like I was viewing the prototype, and not the model. I was glad to see that you had not "detailed" the cars with the customary white border along the floor of the cars, to simulate "lime disinfection". The more prototype shots I see, the more that proves to be the...

Does anyone have a Bachmann Spectrum 4-4-0?

I just bought a Spectrum 4-4-0 "Richmond", and it should be delivered Thursday according to UPS. If anyone has one of those little feller's, could you please give me your assessment on it's performance (pro's & con's). I based my decision to purchase the 4-4-0, on the Spectrum 4-6-0 that I...

    Bashed Atlas Turntable Project.....

One of the guys from the train club that I belong to, posed the question of how they would access the below deck area of my T/T to perform maintenance, and clean-out? (This guy's got Eagle Eyes like Galen!) Well, the more I thought about that one, the more I knew the little workers on the...

    Bashed Atlas Turntable Project.....

Right you are, Galen... but I really did score lines, but I am afraid I did not scratch deep enough as the two coats of paint filled them in. I plan on re-scribing when I start my weathering process, which will be my last task on this project. At present I am working on a small detail that...

    Bashed Atlas Turntable Project.....

Nope!!! That's a Plastistruct sheet (comes in Grid and Diamond Safety Tread designs)... it took long enough to do all the other stuff without scribing my own styrene. Bob

    New track plan

Loren... If those grids are 12", it looks like your ice house/cold storage bldg. will be about 2 inches from the edge of your turntable. You might be able to slide your T/T to the left a tad, and then "swing" those roundhouse tracks a bit to the right. Bob :thumb:

    Bashed Atlas Turntable Project.....

Thanks, guys. Gus: I've heard that they are interchangable, but not 100% certain. Loren: I bought Plastistruct sheet styrene in the "diamond" safety tread pattern (the kind of steel sheet material that they make cat-walks, running boards, etc. out of in real life) and I cut it to fit the...
