    Hi again all!

my initial idea is a reverse F-shaped layout using my existing 2.5x4.5 and 3 doors the Doors will run along the walls in the first picture, in basically this shape: _ _ | the small layout (which has an interchange track) will sit at the juncture of the two doors making the plan look...

    Hi again all!

I'm not sure you get what I meant by modules: the idea is a series of smaller layouts connected by a main line. The mini-layouts within the layout represent towns, industrial zones, branch lines, and yards. These unrelated units would be connected into a single layout by a single or double...

    Hi again all!

Hey folks. Some of you may remember me  I've generally been doing small layouts (N-scale on a Door, Switching layouts, and a 54"x30" peanut shaped oval with a switching game, which has been my layout for the last 3 years) I'm pretty good at designing small layouts (under 20...

    layout plan

go for fewer turnouts, just for cost when designing a door layout back in 2003, I had a complex plan with a huge yard, a wide variety of industries and 22 turnouts! then I looked at the $440 cost of 22 manual turnouts and choked. I cut back to a simpler, 7 turnout design. You can see my...

Garage Plan Round 3 (ding ding!)

using the 22" curves (the wider sectional track curves, and pretty much a minimum for larger engines (6-axle diesels, steam with 10 or more axles, autoracks, passenger cars) means 44" for a turnback curve... nearly 4 feet... given your space requirements, and lack of a liftout, I'd put one...

To keep or to leave behind?

My solution, sadly won't help you. I keep smallish layouts (2x3, 30x54, 30x80) which transport easily, can be reset up quickly, and fit in a dorm, much less a small room. My 'benchwork' is a n old dining room table

Ok, here is my 2nd attempt

Here's a trackplan I made 4 years ago thats a double folded dogbone on a door. Scale mainline run is 1.25 Miles. the four bridge area is a scenic wonder, and it takes a train well over a minute to do a complete run.

Help fill 5x8 space in N scale

just a reminder: The Atlas 'Atlantic Longhaul Lines' fills a 4-by-8 similaly with a two level track, using the notch cut as the upper level and one of the two ramps. In 5-by-8, you could stretch out the middle of the run a little, widening the 'notch'...and I'd use the woodland scenics 2%...

Here We Go Loop De Loop!

A slightly different plan This is a track I call 'Monza Loop' because it vaguely looks like that racetrack. Its a double track that turns into a twice around by throwing the 4 red switches. Theres a small yard just left of center, some switching, and you can do two trains or run the twice...

    Operational switching layouts

here's a small N-scale layout in 6 inches x 48 inches. Would scale up to 1x8-ish in HO. the blue mainline has a rerailer behind the fuel and oil as a fiddle yard area. Its best for a small 4-wheel switcher (RS1, SW-series, Plymouth Diesel) and 34 foot tankers and 40 foot boxcars.

    Amtrak Shutdown 5-25-06

Passenger Service has never really been profitable on its own. Just as oil is becoming scarce, we're throwing away out BEST choice for city-to-city transport in an era of shrinking resources -- passenger rail. Jetliners have maybe another decade or two at most before becoming impractical.

So new I havent got a clue??

That is a good layout. In many ways I actualy prefer its 2x4 version to the 3x5, because its not a simple oval and its a bit offset, making a more interesting loop.
