    N vs. HO

I see you are 18 so eyesight should not be a problem. Having had HO in my 30's and being out of the hobby for 25 years, I went with N on my present layout. It looks great and I enjoy it when whatever I'm working on is put together and up and running. However, the older I get, even with the...

    Some photo help please...

Tripod, f22 or f32 if your lense will do that, and more than likely a long exposure time. Another trick is to take two or three separate photos, each one with a different focal point and then merge these pictures in Photoshop and presto, the entire scene will be in focus. Of course I'm...

    Looking for unlettered covered hoppers

Just throwing this out, but really don't think hopper cars were used much for grain hauling in the early 50's. The box car with wood grain doors and later paper doors was pretty much the standard fare. Elevators were not set up to load/unload hopper cars, it's just a completely different...

    Switching the Grain

Believe me, those kind of grain hopper cars used to be around. In the 80's I used to unload 25 car trains of those pink cars with corn from Iowa. It was quite a sight.

    Atlas Scenic & Relaxed Plan

Palmisano, if you have any more pictures to post I'd sure like to see them. Have always liked this plan and have considered using it for an extension of my present layout. Yours is looking real good. Jack

    How about this?

Depending on their size they can handle much more than a car or two. Plus they go down the road too!

    friends can be jealous

It be da Gauge, Baby!:thumb: Seriously, don't recall how I found the Gauge, but I'm here every day learning and seeing what others have done. Most on here seem to realize it's "modeling" and a hobby. Back on topic, no one other than my family has seen my layout, but many took the time to...

    Interesting diesel lineup in Seattle

Yes, many yard switchers are remote controlled from a 2 person crew on the ground. NO ONE is in the engine(s). Biggest model railroad going!

What to use to fill holes in hardcore door?

Hey, guys, thanks for the ideas, but I gotta say I really like that coat hanger idea.:) Would never have thought of that. Think a combo of wrapping the light wire on something stiff like that AND using duct tape on the bottom of the hole should solve my problem. Jack (KATY)

What to use to fill holes in hardcore door?

Trying to install lights in my buildings. Electrical work is certainly not my specialty so I just bought some white LED Christmas lights that will be good enough for me. Have a hollow core door and 1" of foam to drill through and have to come up through the bottom since I glued all my...

    MRR Layout Database

All I see now are blank boxes with the old "x" in them. Did MR get their hands on you?

    Some pics of my layout

It's on a 36" x 80" hollow core door mounted to a set of folding legs. Hasn't fallen down yet!

    Some pics of my layout

The water ripples were certainly not intentional it just sort of came out that way. I did pour it fairly slowly not knowing how the stuff would really set up.

    Some pics of my layout

I've been out of town for a few days so missed these latest replies. Thanks to all for the generous comments. Sure makes good fodder for my wife to read. "See honey, maybe the next one will be even better!" Don't consider myself in the same league with much of the work I see on the Gauge, but...

    Some pics of my layout

Added a few more. Thanks everyone for all the nice comments. Don't recall where I got any of the autos. Everything from the original track plan was included. Also added a third staging track and a second industry track by the mill since I used a 36" door. Jack

    More Amtrak Woes

Have never taken a train trip and just lately have been investigating Amtrak routes so my wife and I could have the experience of riding a passenger train. Stuff like this makes me wonder though...... Could you imagine this happening in Europe? :(

Do all DCC systems do this?

Ah, no. Sounds like you have the same address for both locos.

May I ask what kind of lighting you use and what f-stop? These are just superb photos! Jack
