    Wauseon & Norwalk Railroad

Well, I already have the airbrush...and my compressor should be delivered tomorrow (Friday). I have masking supplies, the undecorated GP-7, all that's left is to settle on official paint colors.

Question for Nov 16/17 Choose from column A or B...

I would buy one really nice engine. I'm a firm believer in quality over quantity.

    Wauseon & Norwalk Railroad

That's kind of eerie. I do like that paint scheme, especially after seeing it on a real locomotive. But, it's probably not going to end up on my GP-7. Speaking of which, here's the newest design: I know, it's kind of B&Oish...but I like it. Sort of. I'm just not sure if I'd like an all green...

    Wauseon & Norwalk Railroad

Hmm... I'm not really worried about masking, or the multiple stripes. I'm confident enough in my ability to believe I can do this design. However, I think you're right...it looks too modern. I've been struggling with that myself. Port of Whosawhatsit? No, I probably have close to 60 designs...

    Wauseon & Norwalk Railroad

The purpose of bringing this thread to the top is to get some input on my new loco paint scheme. Some of you may remember the disaster of getting my GP-7 "professionally" painted...you can check out that thread here. I'm going to paint it myself, and recently purchased a Paasche "H" series...

*bump* Wow...it's been a long time since I've posted in my "official" thread, eh? Guess I should update a few things first: 1) My website was finished, then redesigned, and is now in a state of near completion again. If you're interested in checking it out, click the link in my signature...

Painting plastic to look like wood?

 It's your friendly neighborhood newbie again... My N scale Interstate Fuel & Oil structure has a wood loading dock, and I'm not sure how to make the plastic look like wood. Does anyone have suggestions as far as colors, and/or technique? Since we all like pictures, those would be...

My first attempt at a layout.

I'm by no means a layout guru, so forgive me if I don't make any sense... 1) I don't see a liftout section. How are you going to get into the middle of the layout? 2) If the outer trackage is for freight, running counter-clockwise, it looks like it would be difficult to get into the...

    Here's a cool modeling project

Pan Am Railways was formerly known as Guilford Rail System. I think the name change was official earlier this spring. In addition, PAR is a subsidiary of Pan Am Systems (which includes the airline), formerly Guilford Transportation Industries. I'm pretty sure Guilford has owned Pan Am since...

    Paint Brand???

I use Polly Scale and Floquil paints for the most part. Both are made by Testors, which is also a good brand to use. The nice thing about these brands are the colors are easy to identify: Rust, Rail Brown, Oily and Grimy Black, etc. The downside is they're a tad pricey. I've also used cheap...

    Am I Ready to Paint?

Wayne - I noticed that the VL model airbrush is double action. I've never used one, but from what I've read, they seem like they would give more control and versatility than a single action. Is this true?

    11 - 10 .... What's your secret

No pets=no problems. The youngins on the other hand, could be a problem. They're 5 and 7, and SHOULD know better, but we'll see how that goes. I cringe at the thought of hearing, "Daddy, how much does one of those trains cost?"

    Am I Ready to Paint?

I used a product back in my RC car days that was a liquid mask product. You brushed it on and waited 15 minutes, then drew your design right on the mask. With some gentle cutting with a hobby knife, you could peel back the area to be painted. I'm not sure how well that would work on an N...

    Am I Ready to Paint?

Here's the airbrush setup I purchased this week: Paasche "H" Model - Single action/external mix - Kit came w/ hoses and many accessories Snap-On brand compressor - 1/2 HP oil-less diaphragm type - Internal bleed - Max running pressure of 33 PSI - Supposed to be one of the quietest on the...
