    Indiana & Ohio Railroad?

    The IORY runs (or ran) right through my town, Jackson Center, Ohio. I have some pics of engines I'll post for you.

    Turning circle of an n scale train

    I was going to start my own thread, but the question is of the same topic. I have a 2-6-6-2 Mallet that I want to use on my layout to run coal unit trains (among other things). Is an 11" radius going to be large enough for this huge engine? I'm not so worried about the cars, as I'm using...

    Can anyone make me a decal?

    I purchased the VitaCal waterslide decal kit, and it was horrible. A waste of money.

    Dwarf Signal Lights.

    That's actually not on a siding, it's the mainline. The siding is the track next to it, which leads to the lumber yard seen in the background. I have several pics of this area (these were taken on a railfanning outting in Delaware, OH) and I can't really make heads or tails of what all is...

    Is this one of the signals you're referring to?

    Coal Operations

    Didn't take me long, did it, Larry? :rolleyes: You may remember that I am modeling in N scale. My freelanced road is the Erie & Southern, circa 1953 in Ohio. I have done a lot of research on what types of freight I want to run on my rails, but due to my limited space, obviously I won't be...

    Hiatus = Over!

    Glad to hear that, Larry. I've purchased and read a few operations books, so lucky for you, a great number of them have been answered already. One in particular on coal operations was very interesting. I'm anxious to get started this year!

    Hiatus = Over!

    I'm back... Personal, medical, and financial issues have keep ole 2-8-2 out of the model railroading business for quite some time now. I see that my last visit was in September of last year. :cry: 2008 will birth the Erie & Southern Railroad on an actual layout, and the rebirth of my website...

    Decal Woes

    Gary - I'm printing yellow letters on clear Vita-Cal paper. Ralph - The instructions in the Vita-Cal kit say to let the ink dry "for a few minutes" before applying the fixative spray. Then, you should apply a few coats and let dry overnight. I did as instructed, and when I rubbed my finger...

    Decal Woes

    :oops: I guess I didn't get enough fixative spray on the decals. When I tried to apply one, most of the ink had washed off, and you couldn't even see the lettering against the black engine. Back to the drawing board. How many coats of this stuff should I put on?

    Decal Woes

    My Vita-Cal kit came today! I've printed off the graphic on clear decal paper and applied the first coat of fixative. I'll probably wait a couple hours, then apply another coat. The instructions say to let it set overnight, which is probably overkill, but I'll wait until tomorrow night after...

    Web or Magazine Articles on RR Operation?

    As for internet information, you can't go wrong with looking into the OpSIG group of the NMRA. There's plenty of links found by searching Google, and Yahoo! Groups also has an OpSIG group as well as other operations-related groups you can get into.

    Web or Magazine Articles on RR Operation?

    I just picked up this book, and it's fantastic. Having also read John Armstrong's Track Planning for Realistic Operation, I can say that Tony Koester's book is a much easier read. His writing is much more "newbie friendly" and easy to understand. As far as I can see, anyone interested in...

    whats a good N scale cleaning car?

    I agree. I recently claimed a homemade track cleaning car that my late grandfather made following a tutorial in an old MMR magazine. It's a SF stock car that's been modified with a weight and a small sanding block hanging down between the trucks. When I get home, I'll post some pics of it...

    Modeling a Shortline.Part 1

    I've been keeping quiet in this forum for the past couple weeks. I hope you enjoyed the breather, Larry, because I've been reading up on operations. My list of questions has grown every day, almost a whole page full now. Better eat your Wheaties! sign1

    Another very informative thread! Larry still has my vote for President. :thumb:

    custom painting

    If you can find pre-made decals, it looks like a pretty easy custom job. The font shouldn't be that difficult to match.

    Decal Woes

    Nevermind...I just ordered the Vita-Cal set from Walther's. My only issue there is Walther's seems to be pretty "old school" on their delivery. They're pretty behind the 8-ball compared to other companies who deliver much faster.

    Decal Woes

    Can you get these decal kits at local retailers like Wal-Mart, or do they have to be ordered online? From what I've read, the Vita-Cal kits seem to get a lot of praise, so maybe I'll just order some of those.
