newbie question about: Bachmann 4-8-4 quality and DCC

Nice work Tony, I'll have to try that. I did a few tender trucks by adding dimpled pates into the journals and attaching feeder wires. It worked well but was alot of work.

newbie question about: Bachmann 4-8-4 quality and DCC

I've rebuilt a few of these and find them to be a decent locomotive after the gear issue is resolved and extra pickups are added. Here is a link to how I sleeved the gears. http://www.the-gauge.com/showthread.php?t=17162 Those are nice pickups Tony. I agree that putting pickups to only...

    Vintage loco ID?

    Here are the dimensions. The A unit is 8 3/8" long x 1 3/8" wide x 2 1/4" tall. The B unit is 6 3/8" long x 1 3/8" wide x 2 1/4" tall. I also took a photo of the bottom of the shell.

What is it and where can I get one

I have modified some of the Hi-Speed cars by milling the frames and installing Atlas trucks (alot of work). I also started powering one of the locos (to much work). http://www.the-gauge.com/showthread.php?t=11974

    Making Vehicles Move

I saw an O gauge layout at Oglby park WV. that used a similar system to pilot a riverboat along a river. They used magnets instead of the slot and tooth pick (to keep the water in the river).

    Mdc Rs-3

Are the air tanks cast onto the sides of the fuel tank? if so it is a Stewart. I used #2x56x5/16 screws on mine. The MDC RS3 has plastic add on air tanks.

    Mdc Rs-3

Glen, Is there one or 2 screws to hold each coupler pocket? If there is only one, you may have a Stewart RS-3. The MDC has 2 for each.

I'd have to hunt for the extra shell I have to be sure (it's never been used), But I do believe Wayne is correct. (Edit) I just looked up the part sheet and it states they are #90008 #2x1/4 screws. Then I looked at the other part sheets I have and found #90008 listed as a #2x1/4 self...

    Help identifying loco's.

What you have are all vintage Athearn locomotives. The SP GP9 Is the first Athearn gear drive design. You could probably sell it for enough to buy a new loco (or 2). The 2 F unit drives are early 60s era Athearn drives. I have one I upgraded with a can motor, it runs well enough but is...

    Does this exist?

Sounds like an interesting kit-bash project. Here's a link to a photo of an S1. http://prrsteam.pennsyrr.com/images/prr6100.jpg The S1 wasn't an articulated locomotive. It wasn't in service long it was incapable of negotiating curves on most lines of PRR track. The Q-2 would be another...
