Thanks Bob, I'm thinking of heading out this Sunday or Monday. I have been to both museums a couple of times in the past. My aim on this trip is to take some more shots of the "Nolan flag stop" station and to measure it.... this could be next winters scratch build project. I am not...

Summer drive time is here... going to take a day trip up to Smith Falls. I don't know if I will spend the night there or start to drive to Montreal to visit the museum in Delson. From Delson back to Toronto. My question is,,, I hear train watching is good in Smith Falls. Do you...

North American vs. British RR terms

Ahhhh Canada, where we spend half our time telling the Americans we are not British and the other half of the time telling the British that we are not American so that we have no time to be ourselves. Robert, great topic, its nice to see the comparisons. I had never heard a caboose called a...

    Doors Open Toronto 2007

Here are some pictures form "401 Richmond St" the former MacDonald Mfg. Co a lithography on tin ware manufacturing plant. I was intrigued by the octagon shaped smoke stack and the 4 steel stacks going up to the new steel smoke stack.

    Doors Open Toronto 2007

The doors open is great. :wave:Both last year and this they had a couple of the roundhouse bays open. A couple of years back most of the doors were open although you could not go in. Took a couple of pics of the turntable bridge drive and some end shots of a 1938 Reinhart wooden vineger car...

    Livery/Colours Question

Great question Rob. I don't know for sure but I believe CN switched to the "new noodle" design in the mid '60s. I think CP switched to the multi-mark a year or to after. I am looking for pictures on CP's GP 9 in the maroon/grey colours. I was looking to do mine in the Huron Central orange...

    ore dock

Great project, here are some questions that will help to determine the design. How many cars are you planning to have on it? Single tract or double? What era are you in, will this be a wooden, steel or concrete ore dock? Many have a very long lead up to the actual dock; have to rise high...

    gluing plaster

Andrew, I did a test using some Mono Ultra Exterior white sealant that I had around. The plaster to plaster joint was good, I was able to pull it apart but it was a good steady pull. Then I gap filled the plaster to some masonite, I have not been able to pull it apart. I'm now...

    gluing plaster

Andrew, thank you. :thumb: I was not sure if the dry plaster would affect the adhesive... then again its not like it would pull the water out since there is no water... I haven't looked into which "goopy" gap filler I will use, thats my next step. To help grip the panel back I was going...

    gluing plaster

I'm working on a building flat made of cast plaster wall sections. Behind the plaster panels will be a wood frame ( 1x3 frame and masonite). My question is should I seal the back of each panel before I glue them to the wood or not ? I have sealed the wood to prevent it from warping. I had...

    plaster recipe

Woodyncarlyle, does your local hardware store carry Plaster of Pairs ? Depending on how many and large the molds are will help to determin if you need a bag of plaster rather than the small carton most hobby stores carry.

    Preliminary Design - Suggestions Needed!

Gary S, looks good so far. Like grewsome I have been running this plan in my head, but like you am not that experienced. Other than the team track are you thinking of having any buildings or sidings along the outer edge ? What kind of industries are you doing? will there be switching...

Got my bridge in, but need some input!

Steve, I know you may not want or have room for the stone arch leading up to the bridge, it does make a nice detail, but the pictures are to help with the abutments. kj
