I'm praying for you and your family, too, Doc.

Here we go! Gotta start somewhere.

Pathetic? No way! That looks like pretty good benchwork to me.:thumb: Lots of room for storage. You can get some inexpensive fabric to go below the fascia. This helps to draw your eye to the layout itself and not on all the "stuff" that's underneath. Nice work. Look forward to seeing your...

    Nantahala layout

A couple more photos. Construction progresses on the tunnel. A test train rumbles through the gorge. One advantage of Unitrack is that you can test run a train while still working on the scenery. I had to do some tree trimming after this run.

    Smallest N guage figure 8

Kato's website has trackplans on it. They have a figure-8 that uses 9 3/4" Unitrack and fits diagonally on a 42" x 42" table. You could probably get it on a 24" x 60" layout. They make a 90 degree crossing and a 15 degree crossing. Like David said, the 15 degree crossing is pretty long...

Is N Scale Kato track good for a layout? Ideas???

YES! Reliable, reusable - hey, what more can you ask? I've started on my third layout with Unitrack and am very satisfied with the results results. This photo is from my earlier Pensacola and Gulf RR.

Modeling different regions or time periods?

I agree. Nothing like taking a good idea and then beating it to death. I was an avid Star Wars fan when it first came out, but by the time Episode 3 came around, I had no desire to see it. Looking back, I'm not even sure that Episodes 5 and 6 were a good idea either. Getting back to the...

    Nantahala layout

A tunnel takes shape. A tunnel is shaping up at the end of the gorge. This would be in the lower right of the previous picture.

Is this the shortest short line or what?

Does this short section of track qualify as Georgia's shortest railroad? This is outside a railroad-theme gas station near La Grange, Georgia. Hey, it's a way to use up all of those little pieces of flex track that are too small to do anything with! :D

    Nantahala layout

There are a lot of pre-built structures available now in N, so you could just about build a layout without having to build any kits. Still, it is usually cheaper to buy and assemble the kits than to use the pre-built ones. My suggestion would be to try an easy, inexpensive kit to see how you...

    Creative use of space wanted

My first layout was built to slide under the bed. I put wheels on the bottom of it and rolled it out when I worked on it or ran the trains. The main disadvantage was the low clearance, which in N scale is not that big of a problem. You just can't have any skyscrapers or tall mountains. :)

    Layout as Furnature

I like to paint the fascia on my layouts to give them a finished look. A curtain around the base can hide the legs and any boxes you might store under the layout. You could also use some ready-made cabinets or roll-away carts, although they are more expensive. I built a cover for my 2' x 2'...

    Starting my NTrak modules

I had thought about using PVC pipe for legs. There are certainly lots of fittings available to attach them to the layout and to cross-brace them.
