Question on Peco Turnouts (N Scale)

NOTE: Peco small radius turnouts are 12" radius for C55, 9" for C80.

    Track and stuff

Agatheron, you can, in a lot of cases, forego using any switch machines at all: 1 - If the turnout is reachable, and it is spring loaded so that the points are held in place, you can just reach out and set them by hand. 2 - You can use ground throws of some sort right next to reachable...

    really new N-scaler

Welcome, Agatheron. I'm more of a "minimalist" when it comes to track plans, I guess. I'd rather leave spaces open for scenery, industries, etc. than have a large or even medium sized yard. The making up and breaking down of trains then need to occur mostly off-stage, so an interchange, as...

    Stone Wall from Plaster

Looks good, d10 - can't wait to see it after the wash brings out the details. BTW, what's the purpose of the nuking step? Just to speed thing up?

    Hot Wire Styrofoam Cutter?

The I one got (by tootling down to Michael's arts-craftsy store) uses a couple of D-cell batteries for power. Seems to work just fine.

    Blue foam or foam blues?

Will any of the kinds of foam work, especially in the larger thicknesses? Seems liike they're all pretty brittle.

    Initial Draft of N-Scale Layout

A quick check at the Walther's site shows 2 mfrs. of Code 55 wyes. One is BK Enterprises, I'm not familiar with their product. The other is Peco, whose Code 55 is really Code 80 with the bottom .025' embedded in the tie strip. I imagine there's some way to transition between the two, but not...

How to mask a building for painting.

I'd have to quibble with that, Michael. A 1/16in. "mistake" would be pretty close to perfect whan painting your real world house, but would be very noticeable on a model.

    Cattle Car Leasing Co.

A google for "Cattle Car Leasing Co. turned up at http://www.nrhs.com/reporting_marks/aar_reporting_marks.htm "CBPX Cattle Car Leasing Co. 4/70-1/80; eliminated 4/80"

    Thomas & Friends

Andrew - According to the the Bachmann site (http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/) the HO scale "Thomas" stuff is available separately. Also Walther's has them listed - go here...

    Atlas Shay

Doesn't Atlas have a "reputed" policy of not duplicating another manufacturer's product line? I better go back and look, Rory, that may have been me!:D

    yuck taste.

You guys are why there's so much reading material on labels anymore. Sometimes I'm not sure whether I should put my pill bottles in the medicine cabinet or on a bookshelf. :D

    Farm and computer cables

Thought of that, screwy, but the only corrugated cardboard I had around measured out to furrows 5 ft apart and 2 ft deep, approx, in N scale. Might work for the larger scales, though, or there's got to be cardboard around with smaller corrugations.

    Signs on Brick

I was wondering the same thing - kinda like a home-made dry transfer? But would we have the same problem with being unable to pring white?

    Magnet

Wasn't there an article not too long ago, Model Railroader, maybe, on how to beef up the magnets - seems like it involved messing around with the end plates or something.

    Farm and computer cables

Here's another idea, Luis - kind of a derivative of the ribbon cable thing. 1. Cut a piece of cardboard the size of the field. 2. Cut little V-shaped notches in the edges of the cardboard where the furrows woul start/end. 3. Stretch (doesn't have to be real tight) wire between the...

    Next step in layout

Ballasting should be done before tunnels are closed in, at least for the track in the tunnels. (Learned that the hard way.

    New idea for 12' x 12' room

G'man - What do the two blue lines represent? As an overall shape, looks do-able. It looks like the 2X4 open space in the middle of the top edge isn't needed for access, since you should be able to get to everywhere from the outside. You could maybe put a 2X4 trackless module in there...

Thanks, Ricardo - I learned something today. Does that mean I can go home? PS - Arizona, Jon?

My maquete is small so i have a problem in not appearing windows or wall

Uhh - Ricardo, I'm a little embarrassed to ask, but what does "marquete" mean? (I'm almost literate in English, quite literate in several computer languages, but not at all in Portugese.)
